Actuarial Senior Manager – Consulting (Healthcare) The Opportunity EY is seeking an Actuarial Senior Manager to join our Healthcare Consulting practice. This role supports multidisciplinary consulting teams by providing actuarial and analytical leadership across complex client engagements involving health plans, managed care organizations, and healthcare‑adjacent entities. In addition to deep actuarial expertise, this role emphasizes technology‑enabled analytics, AI‑supported insights, and external thought leadership, helping clients modernize actuarial, finance, and decision‑support capabilities while addressing regulatory, financial, and operational challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
  • Approximately 10+ years of actuarial experience, with significant experience in healthcare and/or insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience in: Risk‑based capital and surplus management Claims trend analysis and forecasting Product pricing and rate development Actuarial valuation and reserving Executive‑level actuarial reporting
  • Prior experience leading teams and client engagements in a consulting or professional services environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in actuarial science, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, or other government‑sponsored programs.
  • Experience leveraging advanced analytics, automation, or AI tools in actuarial or financial contexts.
  • Experience developing or contributing to industry thought leadership.
  • Willingness to travel to meet client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead actuarial workstreams supporting risk‑based capital (RBC) management, surplus strategy, and capital adequacy assessments.
  • Oversee claims trend analyses, experience studies, and forecasting to inform pricing, reserving, and financial planning.
  • Support product pricing and rate development across commercial and government programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Provide actuarial leadership on valuation and reserving services, including claim liabilities and actuarial support for financial reporting.
  • Ensure actuarial analyses comply with applicable Actuarial Standards of Practice (ASOPs) and regulatory expectations.
  • Partner with technology and analytics teams to apply advanced analytics, automation, and AI‑enabled tools to actuarial and financial use cases.
  • Support clients in modernizing actuarial operating models, including data pipelines, reporting automation, forecasting tools, and decision‑support dashboards.
  • Translate actuarial requirements into clear inputs for data scientists, engineers, and AI practitioners.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and AI applications relevant to actuarial, finance, and healthcare operations.
  • Partner with engagement leaders to scope, deliver, and manage actuarial components of complex consulting engagements.
  • Translate technical actuarial analyses into clear, executive‑level insights for C‑suite leaders, boards, and regulators.
  • Advise clients on process optimization, internal reporting, and management information frameworks.
  • Manage engagement risk, timelines, and quality, delivering high‑quality work products on time and within budget.
  • Develop internal and external thought leadership, including white papers, point‑of‑view documents, client presentations, and conference materials.
  • Contribute to EY’s market‑facing perspectives on healthcare, insurance, actuarial modernization, and AI‑enabled decision making.
  • Support business development through proposal development, solution shaping, and client discussions.
  • Lead and mentor actuarial and consulting professionals, fostering a high‑performance and inclusive team environment.

  • The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $150,400 to $343,600.
  • The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $180,500 to $390,500.
  • Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.
