About The Position

About NCEM: The mission of North Carolina Emergency Management is to enhance North Carolina's resiliency through active collaboration, communication, and coordination of efficient and effective preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation of all natural and man-made hazards and threats. About the Recovery Section: The primary mission of the Recovery Section to manage and implement efficient and effective disaster recovery programs as authorized under N.C.G.S. 166A and other relevant legislation. About the Position: The Administrative Specialist for Public Assistance Branch Manager supports disaster recovery operations by providing essential administrative, coordination, and operational support to ensure effective delivery of services. The position assists with activities related to state and/or federal financial assistance, coordination with partner agencies, and recovery-related efforts. This position will be based in Wake County but is subject to deployment anywhere in the State as needed for disaster recovery work. The successful candidate must be able to: - Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers (verbally and in writing) - Interpret program policies and apply them appropriately to specific situations - Interact with diverse stakeholder groups including but not limited to members of the public as well as local, state and federal government officials - Operate basic office productivity software, including Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint This position requires periodic overnight travel and weekend duty, excessive overtime during emergencies/disasters, and may require deployment to disaster areas for extended periods.

Requirements

  • Operate basic office productivity software, including Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of grants administration.
  • Knowledge of state and federal housing programs, including but not limited to Section 8, CDBG, and non-profit housing resources.
  • Knowledge of emergency and disaster management.
