About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a full-time Advanced Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (Adv END Tech) to perform complex patient care procedures, such as continuous video electroencephalogram (EEG) Monitoring, developing and importing patient specific montages and digital spectral array, and analyzing ongoing data to assist during nuclear medicine procedures. The Adv END Technologist will perform these duties at both the patient bedside and in intensive care units (ICUs), but procedures may also be performed in the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and Adult EMU, as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a 24-month END Technology program or other applicable program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ABRET) as R. EEG T.
  • Certification by at least one of the following
  • American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists in Neurophysiology Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM)
  • American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists in Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM)
  • American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist in Nerve Conduction Study Technology (R.NCS.T)
  • American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine in Nerve Conduction Technology (CNCT)

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years' experience working in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology
  • Certification in Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM) or Neurophysiology Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • General computer skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize and coordinate multiple duties
  • Management or supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex procedures at the patient bedside, ICU, and adult/pediatric EMUs. Procedures may include continuous Video EEG Monitoring, somatosensory evoked potentials, transcranial motor evoked potentials, multimodality intraoperative monitoring, long term intensive care monitoring, and/or EMU monitoring.
  • Develop and import patient specific montages and digital spectral array, analyze ongoing data to assist during nuclear medicine procedures, and maintain age related competencies.
  • Perform advanced techniques, which may include blink reflexes, repetitive nerve stimulation, and/or short and long exercise tests, as needed.
  • Assure and maintain competency in expertise in area of specialization as a requirement for NAEC Level IV accreditation.
  • Support quality patient care through orientation and staff education as well as attend multidisciplinary Epilepsy Surgery Case Conference.
  • Assess on going data and evaluate procedures and techniques used to elicit and display patient’s condition to physicians and neurosurgeons
  • Responsible for quality control of equipment, recognizing malfunction, trouble shooting and/pr alerting appropriate staff.
  • Participate in on call/call back coverage
  • Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, patients, and the community providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Maintain records, database, and data archival system
  • Participate in instruction of END students, electrophysiology fellows, medical residents, and other staff in methods of END technology.
  • Participate in continuing educational opportunities by attending meetings, participating in professional organizations and review of journals and publications, actively participate in UI Health Care epilepsy Case Conference
  • Participate in research activities as directed by the EMU medical director.
