About The Position

The Des Moines Airport Authority is hiring an Airport Operations Duty Supervisor. This position works under the general supervision of the Airport Operations & Security Manager. Airport Operations Duty Supervisors are the first line in maintaining the safe and efficient operations of the airport. Primary duties of this position include ensuring compliance with federal regulations including parts 139 and 1542. Inspects airport facilities, including runways, taxiways, ramps, perimeter barriers and buildings, record discrepancies and arranges for corrective action. Issues appropriate notices to airmen (NOTAMS) when hazards exist and initiate closure of all or parts of the airport if necessary. Responds to aircraft accident/incident and other emergency situations that occur on airport property, coordinates activities, implements emergency or security plan measures until relieved by proper authority, and implement and coordinate snow removal activities in accordance with the airport snow plan. Exercises broad judgment in performing duties. Airport Operations Duty Supervisors work 24/7/365 on varying schedules including days, evening, holidays and weekends. All applicants must possess the ability to follow written and verbal instructions with the extensive use of checklists, have the ability to maintain positive working relationships with other team members, use sound judgement during emergency situations, have a working knowledge of airport security rules and regulations, be able to communicate clearly, and be dependable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Airway Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field required.
  • One year of experience in airport operations at a commercial service airport is required.
  • Directly related professional experience in airport operations/security may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Applicants must be able to pass all background investigations to the satisfaction of the Authority and must hold a valid vehicle operators license.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with the extensive use of checklists
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with other team members
  • Use sound judgement during emergency situations
  • Have a working knowledge of airport security rules and regulations
  • Be able to communicate clearly
  • Be dependable
