About The Position
Safe Passages is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening the well-being, academic success, and economic self-sufficiency of children, youth, and families. AmeriCorps VISTA members build the long-term capacity of Safe Passages and its partner sites by developing systems, tools, and partnerships that expand access to critical services across Oakland and the Bay Area. Safe Passages VISTA members serve in various departments, including Food Security, Health & Wellness, Program Development, and Community Engagement, to improve program effectiveness and organization sustainability. Members work on projects such as developing internal systems, supporting with data collection and evaluation, strengthening outreach and communications, expanding volunteer engagement, and research best practices to inform program design. Members serve as part of a team and collaborate with staff and community partners to increase the organization’s ability to meet community needs. The Expanded Learning Operations VISTA will support expanded learning programs by creating activity plans, organizing materials, and improving systems that support strong after-school programming. Through this work, the member will help the program serve more students and increase access to enrichment opportunities for youth from low-income communities.
