About The Position

ITW Car Care is a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW), specializing in automotive aftermarket products. The division offers a diverse portfolio of brands such as Rain-X wiper blades, visibility enhancing products, and water repellent treatments, including our 2-in-1 Glass Cleaner. Black Magic to support all your wheel and tire needs including Tire Wet. The Application Technician is responsible for conducting product performance, competitive benchmark product testing, and supporting product validation for the Automotive Aftermarket. The ideal candidate has hands-on automotive experience and a strong understanding of product testing and lab equipment. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to assisting the Lead Application Engineer in the testing and qualifications of new and existing products for the Automotive Aftermarket.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating / maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized laboratory
  • Highly motivated individual with strong desire to learn.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other data collection software.
  • Typically, 2-5 years directly applicable experience
  • Minimum associate’s degree in chemistry or science related area is desired.
  • 1-3 years direct applicable experience in a chemical laboratory and testing environment.
  • Background in product testing and validation.
  • Strong attention to details, organization and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Run analytical or other testing equipment is required (mechanic aptitude to use and build testing apparatus / equipment / tools)
  • Perform technical tasks for new and existing Automotive Aftermarket products.
  • Develop new test methods with Lead Application Engineer.
  • Validate test results with minimal supervision and properly document all results and/or observations.
  • Perform product testing and design verification using lab equipment per ASTM/SAE standards.
  • Prepare detailed product validation, reports, presentations, directions for use and other written documentation.
  • Communicate test results of assigned and self-initiated technical tasks to the respective business group and/or appropriate technical community.
  • Supports updating directions for use, FAQ’s and/or product content related to sustaining or ongoing changes of the existing products.
  • Trouble shoots quality issues deemed to be product application related from field or Customer Inquiry team.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects, ensuring timely completion with minimal supervision.
  • Follow company security policies.
  • Protect all test data and company property.
  • Understand and follow all safety rules and procedures.
