Position Summary The Assistant Controller will plan, direct and oversee the accounting activities of the department.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of general accounting principles
  • Knowledge of best practices and internal controls
  • Proficient in accounting software (i.e. NetSuite) and Microsoft Suite or related software
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
  • Proficient meeting and training facilitation skills
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptive, calm under pressure, and capable of balancing multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to be collaborative, adaptable, accountable, and have a can-do attitude
  • Strong follow-up capabilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial accounting and 5-7 years in a managerial role
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred
  • Life sciences experience in pharmaceutical or biologics environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manages the general accounting functions related to accounts payable and general ledger
  • Assess current practices and procedures, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain and control the general ledger and various sub-ledgers
  • Manage fixed assets and CIP accounts
  • Prepare and analyze monthly budget vs. actual reports
  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly financial results
  • Prepare monthly P&L, Cash Flow and Balance Sheet forecasts
  • Oversee and coordinate annual audit
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Directs assigned tasks and provides guidance on escalated matters as needed
  • Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure timely execution of deliverables in the most effective manner
  • Coach, develop and train staff, set performance goals, lead feedback discussions, performance evaluation, and performance reviews. Will also assist with career mentoring, and disciplinary matters as necessary.
  • Interviews prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job.
