About The Position

The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Department of Anatomy, invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the College of Osteopathic Medicine located on the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus. The Department of Anatomy includes nine full-time faculty members and three postdoctoral researchers with active research programs in paleontology, evolution, development, functional morphology, biomechanics, and neurosensory anatomy. The successful applicant will contribute to the department’s teaching, research, mentoring, and service missions. Departmental facilities include a Visualization Center equipped with a micro-CT scanner and CT processing software; a fresh tissue laboratory for histology and staining; an embryology laboratory for in vivo experiments; a microscopy facility with confocal microscopes; human and animal gait laboratories for collecting kinematic, kinetic, energetic, and EMG data; and the Center for Biomedical Innovation supporting robotics, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and 3D printing.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in anatomy or related discipline is required. Related disciplines may include geological sciences where the research focus is evolutionary or paleobiological.
  • The successful applicant must have defended their Ph.D. prior to the start date of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to candidates with substantial teaching experience, a record of extramural research funding, or research expertise that complements the existing strengths of the Department of Anatomy.
  • Previous teaching experience in anatomy, neuroanatomy, or embryology is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching responsibilities include team teaching clinical anatomy to NYITCOM medical students and graduate courses in the newly approved Integrative Anatomy PhD program, as well as mentoring graduate and professional students in research, including master’s and DO/PhD students.
  • The successful applicant is expected to develop and maintain an independent, productive research program and to actively pursue extramural funding to support research activities and graduate student training.
  • The successful applicant will also participate in service to the Department of Anatomy, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, NYIT, and the broader scientific and professional community.
