Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs and Policy Development, with some latitude for independent judgment, and unreviewed action and decision, the Agency Attorney's duties include the following: - Draft and review legal materials related to revision of the New York City Construction Codes, the Electrical Code as well as development of the Existing Building Code and Waterfront Code. - Review and draft legislation, rules, Buildings Bulletins, and other guidance documents. - Review, interpret, and provide guidance on legislative proposals affecting the Department. - Coordinate with involved units and assist with drafting and reviewing requests for proposals, contracts, and other documents related to Department and Mayoral initiatives. - Provide legal guidance on strategy for code and rule implementation. - Liaise with Department units, the NYC Law Department and other City and/or government agencies in connection with code development, code and rule implementation, and other matters. - Conduct legal research, including interpreting federal, state, and local laws and regulations. - Handle other tasks and special projects, as directed.
