Assistant House Manager
About The Position
As an integral part of the Joyce’s Front of House (FOH) team, the Assistant House Manager will work with the House Manager on all aspects of front of house operations before, during and after a performance. It is the responsibility of the House Manager and Assistant House Manager to ensure smooth and excellent patron experience while onsite for performances, and to be the onsite team authority in the event of an emergency. This position oversees the Joyce’s FOH volunteers and provides special assistance to patrons with disabilities during performances as well as supervision of ushers, bartenders, concessionaires, door guards, and lobby attendants. The Joyce is seeking an individual who can demonstrate strong leadership skills, work as part of a team, is highly motivated, process-oriented, and has a passion for customer service and the arts. This is a regular part-time weekend position with occasional additional hours as Substitute House Manager (as needed).
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in FOH Theater Management
- Strong organization skills with attention to details
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Highly collaborative and enjoys working in a team environment
- Flexible to theater operational hours
- NYC FDNY certification for Fire Guard
- NYC FDNY certification for Sprinkler Systems, Fire Alarm Systems (required for Substitute House Manager)
- NYC Food Protection certification
- Alcohol Awareness training
- Sexual Harassment training
- Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED
Responsibilities
- Provide and ensure excellent customer service
- Assist the House Manager in managing front-of-house operations during performances
- Oversee the volunteer ushers during performances
- Address onsite patron concerns, questions, and problems
- Provide daily performance notes to ushers and volunteers
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support the needs of the FOH department and the Joyce Theater
