About The Position

The Assistant Port Director reports directly to the Port Director and is responsible for all aspects of their division-based vessels as well as any future services that originate and/or terminate at their location. The Assistant Port Director will oversee their individual managers and vessel crew for their respective vessel operations.

Requirements

  • Master 100 Ton Near Coastal
  • Minimum 5 years with 100T NC with satisfactory record
  • 5 years as manager in the maritime industry
  • Valid TWIC, First Aid, and CPR
  • FCC Marine Radio Operators Permit
  • Strong focus on safety and teamwork with the ability to establish & maintain effective professional relationships
  • Detailed working knowledge of all ships systems and their proper maintenance
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems while prioritizing tasks in order of importance
  • Ability to maintain calm and take control in various situations
  • Effective communication skills to direct crew, keep passengers safe and relay pertinent information
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; moving furniture and other heavy items such as provisions up and down stairs
  • Crisis Management Training
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to coworkers and guests.
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Will be required to be available for work nights, weekends and on all major holidays.

  • Knowledge of water jet propulsion system a plus

Responsibilities

  • Works to ensure compliance with all company policies and oversees the condition of their service vessels inclusive of the condition of their docks/pier.
  • Works to assist in the logistics of vessel tasking to ensure that all vessels are being tasked efficiently and effectively consistent with the needs of each service. This task would include quickly identifying vessel tasking changes for unplanned circumstances to mitigate impacts to any vessel services.
  • Submit all contractual reports to Accounting Department and/or service partners.
  • Assists the Port Director in overseeing operational budget adherence for each service, including but not limited to weekly/monthly budget reviews for the purposes of identifying and resolving budgetary issues.
  • Work with Director of Sales and Director of Marine Operations to maintain and improve the fleet’s vessel conditions as to remain in ready condition for showings, charters, and group outings.
  • Vessel operation as needed.
  • Works with Port Captain to ensure that all vessels and associated systems remain in good working order consistent with Coast Guard regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, daily checks of the computerized maintenance management system program to confirm that all team members are contributing to the timely completion of vessel checks, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Schedule follow-up meetings with management team after vessel incident or crew/passenger accident. These should include crew involved, Port Captain, and Director of Marine Operations.
  • Collaborate with Port Captain to conduct audits of all incident/accident reports and pursuant to findings submit “lessons learned” as bulletin order items to be incorporated with ongoing onboard crew training.
  • Report 60 days in advance any upcoming inspections and certification renewals to Director of Marine Operations, Port Captain, and Chief Port Engineer, as well as scheduling inspection dates with the USCG.
  • Help oversee the Safety Management System to comply with company standards and make timely reports as needed.
  • Oversees the hiring and scheduling of all Operations Managers to ensure work schedules are meeting weekly hourly thresholds for each operation throughout the year to include adequate managerial coverage for their service locations.
  • Ensures that Operations Managers are meeting company standards based on their individual job descriptions and areas of responsibility.
  • Work with the Port Director and Human Resources Department to assist in handling and resolving personnel issues.
  • Develop and communicate crew evaluations while considering manager recommendations.
