About The Position

This position will perform responsibilities of an assistant principal as assigned by the high school principal, and be responsible for all duties assigned by the principal regarding the management of 9-12 athletics/activities. The assistant principal is responsible for providing assistance to the principal in the administration of the total school program. The assistant provides instructional leadership in the areas of curriculum and professional development. The assistant is responsible for the safety and welfare of students and staff, and assists the principal in meeting the mission of the school.

Requirements

Kansas teaching license required
Kansas administrative license required
Building-level endorsement required
Five years experience in teaching and/or administration required
Master’s degree required
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals.
Ability to write clearly; keep detailed records; effectively produce reports, letters, and memoranda; and to carry out complex tasks.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of variables.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Assists in monitoring compliance of 504 plans and IEPs
Designs, implements, evaluates, and refines curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs
Assists in making curriculum decisions, how it is arranged, and how it should be taught
Monitors the performance of assigned staff and follows district evaluation procedures
Promotes professional development that focuses on student learning
Supports an inclusive school environment that promotes academic achievement for all students
Makes frequent classroom observations
Monitors progress of student achievement
Assists faculty in interpreting test data
Creates a culture of high expectations for self, students, and staff

Assists the principal in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in the school
Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up action
Assists the principal in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services
Supervises the extracurricular activity program
Assists in conducting safety inspections and drills
Maintains discipline throughout the student body
Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
Supports the District’s educational mission for all students and implements all Board regulations and policies in a fair and equitable manner
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the superintendent or designee may assign
Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic/intramural athletics for the school pursuant to Board and KSHSAA policies.
Serves as liaison to feeder athletic programs
Recommends employment and assignment of athletic coaches to the principal
Secures game officials
Coordinates, with coaches, transportation for athletic participants.
Files with district central office staff all transportation requests pursuant to Board policy
Develops, with the approval of the principal, appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of teams and coaches pursuant to Board of Education policies
Enforces physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participating in each sport and verifies each athlete’s eligibility, consistent with Board and KSHSAA rules
Administers the approved athletic budget
Follows Board policies when securing supplies and equipment for athletic teams
Coordinates and approves field and gym practice schedules for all athletic teams
Works closely with athletic booster groups
Evaluates the performance of all head coaches
Supervises the extra-curricular activity program
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the superintendent or designee may assign
Supervises Staff members designated by the Board of Education, superintendent, or immediate supervisor
