The Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer (ACPO) leads and approves new programs, policies, and enterprise-wide initiatives across the organization and health system for Pediatric Services. Establishes and independently approves short- and long-term strategy for the assigned business unit, with full accountability for operational, financial, and regulatory performance across all sites. Exercises autonomous authority over resource allocation, capital planning, and multi-site budget management within the unit. Collaborates with the Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) and other ACPOs to align strategy with enterprise priorities while maintaining governance and decision-making authority within the assigned business unit. Leads system-wide standardization efforts and ensures achievement of strategic objectives across sites. This includes oversight of pediatric inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy services, clinical program development, regulatory compliance specific to pediatric populations, workforce planning, and integration of pediatric pharmacy services across affiliated hospitals. 1) MEDICAL CARE AND PATIENT RESPONSIVENESS Represents the Department in interactions with Health System executives, medical leadership, community organizations, regulatory bodies, and external partners through active participation in enterprise committees, task forces, and governance structures. Establishes enterprise standards for pediatric pharmacy service delivery and coordinates system-level problem-solving efforts with patient care providers to ensure quality, safety, access, and consistency of care. Ensures pediatric pharmacy services are responsive to patients, families, visitors, and caregivers by setting expectations and accountability structures that promote timely, compassionate, and patient-centered care. Oversees the pediatric pharmacy quality assurance and performance improvement framework, ensuring identification, escalation, and resolution of complex quality, safety, and compliance issues. Ensures continuity of pediatric pharmacy operations by directing coordination of clinical, technical, and administrative support across sites and services. Develops, approves, and enforces departmental policies, procedures, goals, and objectives that are aligned with Health System strategy and regulatory requirements. 2) COMMUNICATION Establishes enterprise communication structures to ensure alignment, transparency, and shared accountability across pediatric pharmacy services. Exercises sound judgment in advising executive leadership, administrators, and department managers on strategic, operational, financial, and clinical issues. Provides timely, accurate, and effective written and verbal communications that clearly present analysis, recommendations, and alternatives for complex system-level decisions. Maintains current knowledge of pediatric pharmacy practice, healthcare industry trends, and Health System initiatives and contributes expertise across internal and external forums. 3) STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND EMPLOYEE RELATIONS Establishes enterprise workforce standards and leadership expectations for pediatric pharmacy services and ensures leaders are accountable for compliance. Administers Health System administrative and personnel policies through executive oversight, ensuring consistent and equitable application across the organization. Managing Relationships: Builds and maintains relationships with patients, families, subordinates, peers, and executive leadership based on mutual respect and trust. Leads complex conflict resolution and collaborative decision-making across diverse stakeholder groups. Provides oversight of role design, job descriptions, and performance management systems to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and evolving service models. Establishes leadership development, succession planning, and talent management strategies to support long-term workforce sustainability. Provides executive guidance and coaching to senior leaders and managers to promote teamwork, accountability, and effective change management. Recruitment and Retention: Ensures recruitment practices promote equity, diversity, and inclusion and holds leadership accountable for workforce engagement and retention outcomes. 4) LEADERSHIP Serves as a role model for personnel through leadership practices that demonstrate integrity, accountability, and enterprise stewardship. Promotes collaboration and alignment across pediatric pharmacy services to support Health System objectives and enterprise initiatives. Maintains an open-door leadership approach with demonstrated responsiveness, flexibility, and support during periods of organizational change. Participates actively with executive peers and department leaders in addressing Health System-wide priorities and interdepartmental coordination. Demonstrates a sound approach to decision-making through comprehensive analysis of clinical, financial, regulatory, and operational impacts. 5) PLANNING Identifies enterprise resource needs, operational risks, and shifts in pediatric clinical and technological treatment trends and develops strategic plans to address them. Assesses system-wide service demand and directs staffing models, service adjustments, space utilization, and infrastructure planning across campuses. Establishes, evaluates, and standardizes work-system designs, operational frameworks, and clinical protocols to enhance productivity, safety, and consistency. Leads the development and evaluation of long-term plans for pediatric pharmacy operations, services, and program growth. 6) FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Develops and oversees operating and capital budgets for pediatric pharmacy services; monitors financial performance and ensures compliance with approved budgets. Assesses departmental productivity and directs workflow redesign initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and financial sustainability. Participates in Health System-wide cost containment initiatives and establishes pediatric pharmacy-specific financial stewardship objectives. Partners with executive leadership to identify new funding sources and revenue enhancement opportunities aligned with enterprise strategy. 7) PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CLINICAL EXPERTISE Maintains executive-level knowledge of pediatric pharmacy practice, healthcare delivery trends, and reimbursement systems. Ensures pediatric pharmacy services remain compliant with evolving laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. Guides adoption of pharmacy information systems, automation, analytics, and emerging technologies to support safe and effective care delivery. Anticipates and prepares pediatric pharmacy services for emerging roles and responsibilities of pharmacists across the Health System.
