About The Position

Associate Director – Business Operations Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Associate Director working with the Business Operations of Residential Life. Residential Life is an auxiliary enterprise for on-campus student housing overseeing a $90+ million budget with approximately 8,500+ students in 16 residence hall communities, three single student apartment complexes, and three Greek houses. Reporting to the Director of Housing Business Operations, The Associate Director manages all revenue collections which includes the daily auditing of rent, damages, assessments, deposits, and payments. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE: Oversees specific departmental operations including developing, implementing and managing accounts receivable policies and procedures, including collection methods. Ensures revenue management for Residential Life outputs including human resource decisions, financial oversight, administrative tasks, and all communication exudes a high degree of quality. Serves as the business process consultant for the Residential Life StarRez system including enhancement and trouble shooting. Reconcile monthly ledgers for revenue subsidiary, LSU Foundation, and clearing accounts; prepare necessary closing, reversing and adjusting entries. Supervises one accounts receivable coordinator. OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP: Lead Strategic Systems Integration for Residential Life As LSU has recently transitioned to Workday as our Student Information System, the Associate Director for Business Operations has the opportunity to serve as the sole Residential Life administrative representative on the Workday/StarRez Integration Team, collaborating with partners from Information Technology Services, Accounting Services, and Auxiliary Services. Through cross-divisional collaboration, the Associate Director can proactively identify operational efficiencies, mitigate risk, and strengthen the technological infrastructure that supports student housing and revenue management. Strengthen Residential Life Financial Operations Through oversight of key Residential Life business operations, the Associate Director should assess and refine the department’s accounts receivable strategy to ensure efficiency, compliance, and strong fiscal stewardship. Additionally, there is an opportunity to evaluate current practices, identify process improvements, leverage data to inform decision-making, and build collaborative partnerships across campus to strengthen revenue management establishing clear standards, improving transparency, and enhancing the student and family financial experience. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5 years of related experience
  • Experience in a business office setting.
  • Accounts receivable/collections or related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Administration (15%) Oversees specific departmental operations including developing, implementing and managing accounts receivable policies and procedures, including collection methods; ensure that 8,000+ student rent accounts amounting to $80 million dollars in revenue are assessed and collected from accordingly. Assists the director in the translation and execution of the business office strategic vision. Provides leadership and support to one staff members. Demonstrates divisional attitudes and priorities in all aspects of work.
  • Resource Management (15%) Translates parameters and expectations for delegated decision making set by the executive director and director. Is accountable for executing tasks and objectives for revenue management. Recommends personnel actions for supervision area to the department head and communicates personnel actions to direct report. Stewards financial resources to ensure quality, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, relevance, and alignment with institutional and divisional objectives.
  • Quality Control (15%) Ensures revenue management for Residential Life outputs including human resource decisions, financial oversight, administrative tasks, programs/services/events/experiences, and all communication exudes a high degree of quality. Ensures quality in every aspect of the position including revenue management. Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to improve level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in department for continuous improvement every academic year.
  • Housing Management System (15%) Serves as the business process consultant for the Residential Life StarRez system including enhancement and trouble shooting. Works closely with the Associate Director and other Information and Security Services staff to ensure any system issues are resolved timely. Serves along with the Director as the business point of contact for WorkDay student system implementation. Performs and manages audits of StarRez Tranasctions to ensure financial exports are accurate.
  • Reconciliations/Transfers (10%) Reconcile monthly ledgers for revenue subsidiary, LSU Foundation, and clearing accounts; prepare necessary closing, reversing and adjusting entries. Responsible for revenue transfers from student rent accounts to respective cable television and living learning accounts based on date of record statistics each semester.
  • Advanced Rent/Account Audits (10%) Responsible for all advance rent financial processes - Develop, implement, and monitor advance rent financial process. Sole responsibility for daily, weekly, and monthly financial audits occurring from the start of Campus Housing Contract Renewal and ending on the Date of Record.
  • Other Revenue Collections (10%) Responsible for collection of other revenue including Greek house leases, office rent, conference and short course rent, student rent, room rental rates and codes, individual damages, activity room rentals, commissions from concessionaires, laundry and antenna space. Manages postings, audits, and tracking of staff meal plan awards. Develop, implement, and manage early arrival financial process.
  • Other Duties as Assigned (10%) Other duties as assigned by the executive director and direct supervisor. This includes but is not limited to: efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.
