The Department of Emergency Medicine within the University of Washington’s School of Medicine (SoM) has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director within the Michael K. Copass, MD Paramedic Training Program. The Paramedic Training Program (M1PT) involves a dynamic environment. M1PT is hosted at Harborview Medical Center and by the Seattle Fire Department. The objective of M1PT is to educate and train paramedic students to attain advanced knowledge, experience, and skills to evaluate and effectively treat medical emergencies in the pre-hospital setting as mobile intensive care paramedics. Secondarily, it is the role of M1PT to supervise and manage all currently certified King County paramedics as the single EMS Provider Supervisory Organization. The Associate Director will be a key member of the M1PT Leadership Team and will report directly to the Director of the Program. This position plans, communicates, and implements operational and training initiatives that are aligned with community and program’s strategic goals and mission. This position provides expert guidance to paramedic students and staff and leads administrative, operational, credentialing, and educational functions. This position utilizes process improvement and project management tools to implement policies and develop strategic plans to ensure Paramedic Training goals are met. This position maintains professional relationships and leads communication and interactions across all units within the Department and other partners such as the Medical Centers, School of Medicine, University of Washington and regional organizations. As a leadership position, the Associate Director is expected to exercise independent judgment, solve complex problems, and develop innovative approaches in training paramedic students. The Associate Director position requires an ability to direct and manage multiple priorities, effectively analyze a range of educational situations, and make sound decisions using effective time management skills, good business acumen, and balanced administrative judgement. The Associate Director must have excellent personnel management skills and must have strong organizational ability. The Associate Director must be able to work independently and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to achieve the goals of the Program and School of Medicine.
