About The Position

As the Associate Executive Director (AED) for Member Services, you will be responsible for the management and oversight of Member Services divisions. This includes planning and coordinating the activities of the Board Development Services, Executive Search and Field Services, HR Services, and Student Solutions divisions of the Texas Association of School Boards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 10 years of progressive public-school superintendent or cabinet-level district experience.
  • Knowledge of the organization, finance, and governance of Texas public education.
  • Knowledge of the role and responsibility of school board members and school leaders.
  • Knowledge of TASB services and mission.
  • Ability to supervise personnel.
  • Ability to lead annual budget processes and project revenue.
  • Ability to make presentations on behalf of TASB to public policymakers and the membership.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and to communicate clearly with TASB members, educational professionals, and policymakers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to staff regarding the association’s policies, positions, and practices.

  • Doctor of Education (EdD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Closely monitor new legislation and regulations impacting K-12 education to help educate and guide team leaders on opportunities and challenges facing public schools.
  • Regularly present to the TASB Board and its Standing Committees on matters related to Member Services.
  • Keep Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director informed and updated on developments that might affect the Association and inform other AEDs on these matters as appropriate.
  • Through TASB Field Services, ensure districts are aware of TASB services and solutions and keep the organization informed on relevant member information received by field services representatives working across the 20 Education Service Centers (ESCs).
  • Facilitate the annual development of the division budgets for Member Services, ensuring each area works to steward Association resources.
  • Closely monitor the service area budget and operational plan.
  • Coordinate functions of the service area divisions and assist in resolving coordination problems that may arise.
  • Develop and maintain fruitful relationships with key entities and stakeholders in matters related to TASB and the work of Member Services.
  • Plan for development, integration, and use of technology in service delivery and program infrastructure.
  • Leverage deep understanding of how Texas public schools operate to ensure all areas of TASB Member Services are working in full support of the TASB mission and the evolving needs of Texas public school districts.
  • Protect, champion, and advance TASB’s role in Texas as a trusted provider of trustee training, executive searches, and district Human Resource (HR) supports and services.
  • Contribute and participate as a member of the executive management team, assuming responsibility for projects as assigned by the Executive Director or Deputy Executive Director.
  • Represent TASB at functions and activities as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Establish expectations for innovations in program and service delivery.
  • Serve as the primary Staff Liaison to the TASB Member Services Committee providing staff and administrative support for committee business, including oversight of the James B. Crow Innovation in Governance Award and the Superintendent of the Year process.
