About The Position

NOTE: This position is located at Nordstrom's downtown Seattle headquarters and follows a hybrid work model, with four days in the office and one remote workday each week. We don’t just sell cutting‑edge fashion and accessories — we create them. Our talented fashion design team, the Nordstrom Product Group (NPG), develops, designs, produces, and sources all Nordstrom‑brand products. From traditional to trendy, this team shapes the styles and looks our customers love. And now, we have an exciting opportunity to join this team. As an Associate Technical Designer, you will create original samples ensuring that Design and Fit are aligned with the Brand DNA of the product/category. You will lead fit sessions and ensure fit and quality exceed customer expectations. You will work with our vendor/factory partners and provide measurement worksheets and visual construction pages, manage sample development and fit approvals, communicate construction changes to factories and you will support block pattern development in partnership with Pattern Engineers and Designers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Apparel Design, Apparel Manufacturing, Pattern Making or related field or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience in Technical Design or related field
  • Ability to demonstrate capabilities through fit test
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and Adobe CS.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skill.
  • Strong understanding of industry and trends.
  • Enthusiasm for Nordstrom culture and growth opportunity in a corporate environment
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technology and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional and external partners to ensure product aligns with Brand DNA and design intent
  • Maintain consistent fit and construction quality for best customer experience
  • Create measurement worksheets and visual construction pages for factory development
  • Follow samples from development & fit approvals to production
  • Lead fit sessions and communicate fit and construction changes to factories to achieve approved fit and construction
  • Support block pattern development, collaborating with Pattern Engineer and Designer on new fits and silhouettes
  • Align and deliver to agreed calendar milestones
