About The Position

Practices as an attorney and address legal matters for the Company on a range of legal issues within the Legal Department’s Capital Projects and Maintenance practice group with a specific focus on real estate related matters.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an American Bar Association accredited law school or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Licensed to practice law and must be able to practice in state and federal courts.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in handling business litigation cases and business disputes, such experience in utility context preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in handling legal matters and disputes related to real estate, such experience in utility context preferred.
  • Utility industry knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in area of responsibility and manage projects.
  • Ability to effectively conduct research of legal precedent and other information related to performance of job duties.
  • Possesses sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the Company.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Word and email applications in performing job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Addresses routine and moderately complex issues falling in the Capital Projects and Maintenance practice group's responsibility, which generally advises on and assists with the completion of capital and maintenance projects, supports securing necessary governmental approvals and private rights necessary to complete such projects and supports the real estate group by addressing legal matters related to acquisition, maintenance and protection of real estate assets.
  • Advises Company personnel, makes recommendations on and advocates on behalf of the Company on routine or moderately complex issues; resolves difficult, complex or unusual matters through consultation with more senior attorneys.
  • Participates in handling pending or threatened litigation, proceedings or disputes, including assisting with drafting and submission of pleadings, discovery, oral arguments, settlement negotiations and other litigation activities.
  • Reviews contracts and other legal documents; participates in contract negotiations; advises Company personnel on terms and potential impacts of legal documents.
  • Analyzes and reviews statutes, regulations, orders, case law and other precedent or rules and advises Company personnel on substance and impact on the Company related to such issuances.
  • Conducts legal research and analyzes statutes, case law, agency orders and other precedent; counsels Company personnel through verbal and written communications.
  • Manages outside counsel and other vendors retained to assist on Legal Department matters.
