About The Position

The Role As an Automation Engineer at Flint Assembly, you will support the Body Shop and the broader plant at large by maintaining and continuously improving our automation systems. These include vision-guided applications utilizing Keyance, Photoneo and Matrox vision systems. You will also be integral in troubleshooting, problem solving, improving throughput, increasing MCBF, reducing MTTR, and help in training our workforce on new and emerging technologies. What You'll Do (Responsibilities): Provide in-depth support for automotive assembly environment, with a focus on Body Shop automation. Maintain a thorough understanding of Body Shop automation hardware/software and interfaces to other control systems (PLC, line controllers, plant floor systems, etc.). Lead projects end-to-end: define scope, manage issues/risks, and drive issues to closure. Communicate project status through regular project meetings, status reports, and reviews to ensure alignment with internal customers. Train and support skilled trades on new automation and vision technologies. Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions. Document and share lessons learned from completed projects. Maintain a strong working knowledge of Plant Floor Systems related to automation and data flow. Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications): Knowledge of vision/emulation solutions and applications such as Photoneo and Keyence Knowledge of machine vision hardware/software, preferably Matrox (2D & 3D) platforms. At least 3 years of experience working with robot programming and troubleshooting, for example, Spot Welding, Arc Welding, Dispensing, Roller hemming. Fanuc robot programming experience (setup, recovery, program edits, and optimization). Experience in integrating robots Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with engineering, production, maintenance, and suppliers. Demonstrated quick learning and ability to build functional expertise in new technologies. Solid project management capabilities, including planning, execution, and issue resolution on site. Must be able to work on a rotating/flexible shift (1st, 2nd or 3rd), as well as overtime and weekends, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GM Global Common Controls Architecture and GM Global Standards for controls and automation.
  • Familiarity with robot simulation studies and robot simulation software (experience is a strong plus).
  • Prior experience leading controls scope for major launches, technology upgrades, or large automation projects.
  • Familiarity with GMIT and related manufacturing IT/OT systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent controls/automation engineering experience.
