Cuyamaca College seeks talented, dedicated, and diverse candidates to apply for the Automotive Technology Faculty position who share our strategic vision focused on student success. We seek a candidate with a record of successful teaching and mentoring of students. This full-time tenure track position will be a key member of the Cuyamaca College Automotive Technology Department team. The Automotive Department’s mission is to recruit and train the next generation of working professionals in the automotive field. Our automotive factory ASE training and specializations award manufacturer and ASE certification opportunities from Engine Repair through Advanced Electric Vehicles and autonomous drive systems. The person accepted to fill this position will be required to manage a manufacturer’s level program. They must have certifications in General Motors, Ford, Bureau of Automotive Repair, and/or other manufacturer training programs, or have the ability to attain these certifications once hired. We are seeking individuals with excellent teaching abilities to join our subject matter expert faculty. Faculty members have the ability to earn compensation above the posted salary range through additional contract responsibilities awarded by managing a manufacturers training program, teaching overload, completing department program reports, and/or other special assignments.

Requirements

  • APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA : Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment OR Any associate degree and six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment; professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree OR T he equivalent.
  • NOTE : If you are applying based on “the equivalent”, you will need to complete an Equivalency Determination Form and equivalency statement. These documents MUST be submitted as part of the application procedures.
  • Successful experience in, or preparation for, teaching Automotive Technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, students, administration, industry, and the community.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in Automotive Technology.
  • ASE Certifications or the ability to attain certifications for teaching assignments.
  • Recent work experience in the automotive field; including factory or industry certifications.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of training certifications and/or equivalent master level manufacturers training such as Ford, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, etc.
  • Desire to become involved in college shared governance and campus community affairs.
  • Ability to teach online and hybrid classes using advanced department technology. Training in online teaching will be provided during the first semester of employment.
  • ASE Master Automobile Technician Certification.
  • ASE L-series Advanced Technology Certifications.
  • Ability to perform other duties consistent with the faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract .
  • Evidence of background and experience servicing late model vehicles (less than 5 years old) including hybrid, electric, and alternative fueled vehicles.
  • Evidence of leadership and/or management of a school program, or industry related facility.

Responsibilities

  • The applicant should possess the understanding and commitment to the community college philosophy.
  • It is the responsibility of a regular/contract instructor to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses, and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions, and values of the college and District .
  • This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, large lectures and small seminars, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the “open door” concept serving a diverse student population.
  • Includes teaching subject areas in the Automotive curriculum, such as engine repair and diagnosis; maintenance; shop skills and shop safety; measurement; basic hand tools and wrenches; demonstration and supervision of engine rebuilding; transmissions/transaxles; chassis electrical systems; brakes, suspension, and steering; axles/drive axles/differentials; engine electrical systems; engine performance and emissions; air conditioning and heating; electric and hybrid vehicles, and smog check license preparation.
  • Manage and build manufacturers training programs and industry programs such as ASCCA, and assist with program certifications and reviews.
  • Assist in course and curriculum design, program review, developing, constructing and coordinating the use of instructional aids in accordance with manufacturers and ASE accreditation standards.
  • Assist with developing and teaching short term courses using new and future technologies as prescribed by manufacturers.
