About The Position

This position directs all aspects of Backend Web Development and Core Banking Development, under the direction of the VP of Application Development, to ensure efficiency, quality of member service, and compliance with existing regulations and credit union policies. A positive attitude, a professional image, self-motivation and the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously are the expectations of this role.

Requirements

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree and three years of job-related experience is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of internal project knowledge, programming knowledge, training and experience may be acceptable.
  • Good PC/data entry skills, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail, and knowledge of programming language fundamentals is required.
  • A strong knowledge of version control systems is required; however, knowledge of GIT and the GitLab platform is preferred.
  • A strong knowledge of Web Services (SOAP, REST), PHP, MySQL, and the Laravel/Lumen Framework (or similar languages/framework experience) is required as this role will be focused on building, and helping guide a team to build APIs and connectivity to APIs.
  • Knowledge of Jack Henry Symitar’s proprietary programming language or an ability to learn it is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX and the VueJs framework may be helpful, but is not required and would be infrequently utilized by this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional leadership and operational management to the Backend Web and Core Banking Developers. Ensure the Backend and Core Development Department service is efficient, effective and can adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Apply communications, technical, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify and resolve employee issues by developing effective code.
  • Must express a desire to learn and improve employee processes in collaboration with developers, management and other departmental teams.
  • Support staff by creating and maintaining web-based solutions and work as part of a team to develop workflow processes to enhance the Intranet and core systems' capabilities.
  • Ability to hand code PHP and write SQL Commands.
  • Apply strong adherence to department coding policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes work management software to track the Department’s projects, timelines and staff resources with the VP of Application Development to ensure projects are appropriately prioritized and managed to meet deadlines.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Application Development team to effectively and efficiently provide service to staff throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of applicable Microsoft Windows applications and possesses the ability to learn new applications independently.
  • Ability to utilize work management software, such as Monday.dev [//Monday.dev], to document epics, issues, and bugs for the Backend and Core Development Department. Utilizes the tool to manage staffing resources and timelines for projects, and communicate problems with the VP Application Development, to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Expertise in backend web programming language with an advanced knowledge of API system and PHP language preferred.
  • Coordinate the hiring, training, coaching, supervision and performance evaluations of all Backend Web and Core Banking Developers in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Backend Web and Core Banking Developers have an effective training plan for new members of the team, to ensure both their ability to succeed in their positions.
  • Lead staff meetings and conduct group and individual training sessions for Backend Web and Core Banking Developers as needed.
  • Represents the Credit Union with honesty, integrity and trust at all times.
  • Adheres to established internal policies and procedures for compliance.
  • Completes required compliance training in a timely manner and complies with all regulations within scope of the position.
  • Adheres to the requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, USA PATRIOT Act and anti-money laundering regulations.
  • Be willing to perform any duty (beyond Essential Functions above) as assigned.
  • Confidentiality is of the utmost importance. The Backend and Core Development Supervisor is representing the Credit Union therefore empathy and tact are to be used at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with members, coworkers, and management. Foster teamwork within the Backend and Core Development department.
  • Recognize and listen to member/coworker requests and/or concerns and identify their needs so they may better be served.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with individuals.
  • Possess a detailed working knowledge of the following web languages, technologies, and libraries: PHP, MySQL, Laravel/Lumen and Web Services (SOAP, REST).
  • Possess a working knowledge in version control systems, including GIT, with knowledge of the GitLab platform preferred.
  • Knowledge of Jack Henry Symitar’s proprietary programming language or the ability to learn it.
  • Able to exercise sound judgement while making timely decisions.
  • Regular, predictable attendance and active participation in required meetings, unless prior approval is granted.
