The Portfolio Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall credit quality, administration, and monitoring of an assigned portfolio of commercial and consumer loans. This role acts as a partner to the bank lenders (primarily in North Texas) by managing the underwriting process, facilitating renewals, and tracking covenants, among other duties, to minimize risk and maximize portfolio performance. As a key member of the lending team, the PM will ensure compliance with bank policies, regulations, and underwriting standards. The PM will serve as a secondary point of contact for bank customer needs. The PM is capable of performing all functions involved with the origination and servicing of CRE, commercial, and consumer loan relationships to enable the loan officers to utilize their time in relationship management development and expansion, customer interaction, and new customer generation.

Requirements

  • Experience: Generally, 3-7+ years of commercial credit analysis, commercial lending, or portfolio management experience, or other relevant and applicable experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or a related field required. Formal credit training preferred.
  • Knowledge: In-depth and thorough knowledge of commercial lending, credit underwriting, and regulatory lending requirements.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial analysis software (e.g., SageWorks, Moody’s Analytics, or others), Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, and risk rating methodologies.
  • Soft Skills: Ethical character and judgement with attention to respect, commitment, integrity, values, and confidential boundaries. Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with high attention to detail. Ability to work well within a team setting and independently, and prioritize multiple responsibilities, objectives, and deadlines. Effective time management skills with high level of reliability and punctuality. Self-starter with ability to perceive needs and take initiative to address them. Approachable personality with strong customer service skills. Agile and adaptable in various scenarios and situations with a calm and focused demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Credit Analysis & Underwriting: Analyze financial statements, tax returns, and cash flows to evaluate creditworthiness for new loans and renewal loans. Perform financial and collateral analysis. Develop and complete credit packages for review, presentation, and approval. Assist the loan officers in obtaining credit, financial, and collateral information. Recommend appropriate loan structures, pricing, and terms.
  • Portfolio Maintenance: Monitor portfolio performance, covenant compliance, risk ratings, and reporting requirements. Receive and obtain approval for customer requests, including draw requests, account transfers, and deposit questions, as needed.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential problem loans early and develop mitigation strategies. Proactively manage delinquent accounts, working with lenders to clear exceptions and minimize past-due loans. Ensure loans comply with bank policies and regulations (e.g., BSA, AML)
  • Loan Documentation: Coordinate with other lending officers, attorneys, title insurance companies, appraisers, credit analysts, administrative support, document preparation, or others in support of the origination and servicing of credit facilities. Collaborate with loan operations and legal counsel to ensure loan documents are prepared accurately and according to approval, which includes full review of loan documents.
  • Client Relationship Support: Serve as a contact for client questions, often supporting relationship managers in building client relationships. Assist loan officers during loan closings and other meetings, and interact with customers accordingly. Cross-sell related banking services, including cash management, deposit products, and others offered now or in the future.
