POSITION OBJECTIVE: The position of Behavior Intervention Technician is done for the purpose of working directly with students who demonstrate significant emotional and behavioral challenges to stabilize their behavior and maximize their learning opportunities. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) Assesses the impact of classroom management on student’s behavior. Identifies triggers that appear to escalate student. Observes and records data on targeted positive behaviors and negative behaviors. Empowers students to be responsible for their behavior and academic success. Documents student escalations as required. Collaborates with team members and behavior intervention specialist to develop and implement positive behavior reinforcement systems, including positive reinforcement charts, daily schedules, routines and interventions. Trains staff on systems and positive reinforcement strategies related to the scope of the position. Works with academic content where appropriate with students under the direction of the special education teacher. Implements student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP), Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and Aversive Intervention Plan (AIP) as required for maximizing student success in his/her learning environment. Provides written intervention summary upon assignment completion. Prepares individual paraeducator training binder including student’s positive behavior reinforcement systems, positive reinforcement charts, daily schedules, and routines. Model positive behavior interventions. Utilizes BSD behavior resources and provides behavior reference material to teachers and paras as needed. Provides follow-up after interventions, including determining the efficacy of intervention recommendations and consistency of implementation. Utilizes approved Right Response escorts and/or holds. Attends professional development trainings as needed. Attends student team meetings when requested. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to and is supervised by special education supervisor
