About The Position

Reporting to the Patron Services Supervisor, the Bibliographic Assistant II provides library supervision in the evenings, manages the interlibrary loan and document delivery services, and oversees the library’s student worker portfolio. The BA II is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student workers, as well as reviewing and monitoring on-site patron needs and behaviors in the evenings. While working at the Information Services Desk, the BA II answers directional and ready reference questions, assists patrons in using library equipment, checks reserve materials in/out – including print materials, laptops, and peripherals for the technology embedded in the study rooms, and anatomical models. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in a library or related setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills in order to professionally and politely interact with faculty, staff, and students, sometimes in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with MS Office applications, as well as customized computer software and online computer systems related to library operations.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, excellent time-management skills with attention to detail, dependability, and ability to prioritize demands.
  • Strong customer service orientation and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience hiring and supervising student workers.
  • Experience with interlibrary loan operations.
  • Working knowledge of the ILLIAD, DOCLINE, OCLC (or other interlibrary loan software), ALMA (or similar ILS software), and LibApps.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of public services operations in a library setting (such as checking out & renewing materials, shelving in call number order, answering ready reference questions, etc.)
  • Experience in an academic health sciences library or teaching hospital library.
  • Proven ability to work independently & collaboratively and to multi-task.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
