Billing Coordinator Pacific Cancer Care (Monterey, CA) JOB DETAILS: LOCATION: Pacific Cancer Care - 5 Harris Ct, Monterey, CA 93940 SCHEDULE: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8-Hour Shifts SALARY RANGE: $21.00 – $30.24 per hour REPORTS TO: Director of Operational Excellence BENEFITS: Benefit-eligible position, including: Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off (PTO) Retirement plan (401k) JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Billing Coordinator is responsible for verifying patient insurance eligibility and benefits and supporting the timely resolution of coverages-related issued that impact claims and accounts receivable. Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, verifying active insurance coverage, benefits, deductibles, copays, and authorization requirements prior to services rendered; identifying and communicating eligibility or coverage issues to internal teams to prevent claim denials; and documenting eligibility findings accurately in the patient record. Additional responsibilities include scanning and maintaining insurance correspondence and verification documentation in patient charts, assisting with follow-up on coverage-related claim denials or unpaid claims as needed, supporting additional revenue cycle functions as assigned, and maintaining strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from accredited High School required. Graduation from business school/college and/or business/billing courses helpful. Minimum one year business office/billing/collections and customer service experience required Computer and typing experience/skills. Demonstrated excellent people skills, verbal skills, and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual in English and Spanish required. KNOWLEDGE OF: Billing, collections and reimbursement theory and practices. Medical terminology Medical office practices Computer skills Telephone skills Filing procedures Customer service practices ABILITY TO: Type minimum 25-30 words/minute on the computer Perform mathematical calculations. Multitask: ability to handle, use and respond to persons on the phones and computers simultaneously. Sit for long periods. Speak clearly to be understood by patients, insurance companies, MDs, and staff. Maintain weekly pace of practice with billing and collections. Maintain confidentiality. PHYSICAL FACTORS: The physical abilities required of this position may include the following: Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed and computer documents throughout the shift. Speech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in person. Motor skills sufficient to operate computer terminal, fax machine, copier, and telephone. Physical ability to reach, lift, and bend to retrieve and/or file materials. Physical ability to sit, stand or otherwise remain stationary at work post for long periods of time. Physical ability to walk hallways between departments. Physical ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. Physical ability to walk up and down one flight of stairs and between departments.
