About The Position

The Boilermaker will support and execute the safe, quality, and efficient completion of various tasks related to mechanical maintenance work being performed at an industrial plant.

Requirements

  • Must have 4+ years of related experience as a Boilermaker.
  • Must have experience using industrial hand and power tools in an industrial work environment.
  • Must possess aptitude for mechanical equipment, have effective computing, literacy, and numeracy skills, and manual dexterity.
  • Must be capable of reading and comprehending technical manuals as well as industrial/engineered drawings such as but not limited to blueprints, sketches, plans, P&ID, etc. to determine scope of work, locations, required tools/equipment, and bill of materials to execute activities.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must pass drug and background check.
  • Must possess knowledge and experience of hoisting/lifting/and rigging practices to execute these activities in a safe and controlled manner with the assistance of come-along, cranes, etc.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with verifying vertical and/or horizontal alignment, elevation, etc. with such tools as plumb bobs, laser alignment equipment, transits, levels, etc.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with cutting, bending, basic welding, of various metal materials using shears, torches, welding equipment, etc.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with bolting, torquing, and tensioning practices to execute these tasks in a safe, quality, and controlled manner.
  • Must be capable of leading and mentoring other crew members such as helpers, apprentices, and Journeymen II.
  • Must possess skills and ability to preplan, coordinate, and order material for specific jobs/activities/tasks.
  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
  • Will talk and hear to communicate.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off of platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
  • U.S. Only: Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Norrell Construction is required.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks.
  • Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
  • Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
  • Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or crane.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and/or levels.
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
  • Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting.
  • Pull, push, or pry iron/steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting into place.
  • Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.
  • Will be expected to assist other crafts when not actively performing boilermaker activities.
