About The Position

Performs general building and grounds maintenance work at the County Detention Center and the County's adjacent work release facility. Work involves performing general maintenance on building electrical, heating, plumbing, ventilating and cooling systems. The work requires prior experience in general building maintenance and is performed under technical supervision.

Requirements

• Knowledge of-- Methods, procedures and techniques of general building maintenance.
• Tools, materials, equipment and safety precautions of the trade.
• Skill in -- Use of tools and equipment of the trade.
• Ability to-- Perform general building maintenance and repairs.
• Direct the work of inmate crews.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Deal effectively with the public.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Five years of progressively responsible building maintenance experience.
• Subject to background investigation.
• A pre-employment and annual tuberculosis screening will be required.
• Requires strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending, climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or lifting objects up to 100 pounds and skilled use of tools and equipment.
• Worker is exposed to dirt and soil, and hazards from working with electrical circuits.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintains machinery and equipment.
• Maintains maintenance schedules and parts replacement.
• Maintains grounds by performing regularly scheduled cutting and landscaping.
• Maintains check off list for supplies, tools and vehicles.
• Performs related work as required.
