About The Position

The Business Development Director, Early Phase Services is responsible for driving commercial growth and expanding strategic partnerships across North America for Pharmaron's Early Phase clinical research services. This role focuses on identifying new business opportunities and developing long-term client relationships. This position requires a strategic, client-focused commercial leader who can effectively navigate complex scientific discussions, understand evolving client development needs, and translate those needs into tailored service solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and managing a strong sales pipeline, driving revenue growth, and strengthening Pharmaron's presence within the early clinical development market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, or a related discipline. Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MBA) preferred.
  • 10+ years of business development or commercial experience within the CRO, CDMO, or pharmaceutical services industry.
  • Extensive experience supporting or selling Phase I / Early Phase clinical development services.
  • Strong understanding of early clinical development, including First-In-Human studies and clinical pharmacology programs.
  • Demonstrated success achieving or exceeding revenue targets and developing high-value strategic client partnerships.
  • Established network within biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies involved in early clinical development.
  • Proven experience managing complex proposals, negotiations, and strategic account plans.
  • Experience leading collaborations with multinational pharmaceutical companies and emerging biotechnology firms.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills with a collaborative leadership approach.
  • Ability to travel approximately 40–60% for client meetings, conferences, and internal collaboration.

  • Fluency in Mandarin is highly desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Drive revenue growth for Pharmaron's Early Phase clinical research services across North America by identifying new business opportunities and expanding strategic client relationships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, including clinical development leaders, R&D executives, and procurement stakeholders.
  • Identify and secure new partnerships with emerging biotechnology companies and established pharmaceutical sponsors advancing early clinical development programs.
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of opportunities, maintaining accurate sales forecasts and tracking key sales performance metrics.
  • Achieve annual revenue and growth targets through a combination of new client acquisition and expansion of existing accounts.
  • Lead client engagements, proposal development, and contract negotiations in collaboration with scientific, operational, legal, and finance teams.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders including clinical operations, regulatory affairs, biometrics, legal, and finance teams to develop customized and competitive proposals that address client development needs.
  • Coordinate internal resources to support proposal development and ensure smooth project execution following contract award.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell Pharmaron's integrated services, including regulatory affairs, biometrics, and clinical development capabilities.
  • Represent Pharmaron at industry conferences, scientific meetings, and partnering events to promote Early Phase services and develop new strategic relationships.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and evolving client needs to inform business development strategy and support service innovation.
