About The Position

The Role: We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Chassis Controls team as a Chassis Controls Calibration Assistant Engineer at GM’s Milford Proving Ground. Our team develops and delivers world-class vehicle dynamics performance to our customers through innovative chassis control features on the exciting vehicles that will define the next generation of GM’s future. A Chassis Controls Calibration Assistant Engineer supports the development and delivery of chassis control system calibrations. This role works closely with Calibration Engineers, Chassis Program Leads, and Technical Specialists to ensure the team is enabled to deliver software / calibration deliverables with high quality and on time. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in vehicle dynamics and chassis controls, hands-on experience with data acquisition and test execution, and a desire to grow in calibration and vehicle integration. They will demonstrate solid technical fundamentals, strong teamwork and communication skills, and the ability to manage detailed execution in a fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Automotive, or related field)
  • experience (including internships, co-ops, or full-time roles) in one or more of the following:
  • Chassis controls or braking systems
  • Vehicle dynamics, ride and handling, or performance driving
  • Vehicle integration, testing, or development engineering
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition and analysis, calibration tools, or vehicle test equipment
  • Demonstrated initiative and bias for action in solving technical problems and closing issues
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including clear documentation of test results
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain GM Level 3 driving certification
  • Ability to travel for winter testing activities in January / February – as needed
  • Ability to travel for development & ride trips interspersed throughout the year

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and practical understanding of vehicle dynamics and subjective vehicle evaluation
  • Experience with chassis controls (e.g., ABS, ESC, TCS, integrated brake control, brake-by-wire)
  • Familiarity with controls / algorithm behavior and how calibration influences system performance
  • Experience with GM calibration and development processes, including tools such as CRETA and PRTS
  • Prior exposure to V-Model or similar SW / calibration development lifecycles
  • Performance driving or off-road driving interest or experience
  • Experience supporting or working with global, cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and desire to progress toward lead calibration or program integration roles over time

Responsibilities

  • Champion the safety of GM’s employees and customers in all activities
  • Support development and execution of chassis controls calibration activities
  • Prepare vehicles, instrumentation, and tools for development, validation, and correlation tests
  • Execute vehicle and HiL test plans, including data collection, logging, and basic post-processing
  • Analyze objective and subjective test data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities; summarize findings for lead engineers
  • Help manage vehicle development property usage, including booking, status tracking, and readiness checks
  • Support planning and execution of off-site development and ride trips, including logistics, vehicle prep, and on-site testing support
  • Generate and maintain clear, concise test notes, issue summaries, and engineering documentation
  • Collaborate closely with Leads, Performance Engineers, Calibrators, and Validation teams
  • Adhere to all safety, regulatory, and process requirements in test execution, data handling, and documentation
  • Continuously develop knowledge in brake controls, vehicle dynamics, and ride and handling to increase contribution and autonomy over time
