About The Position

The Charles Lea Center is seeking an enthusiastic and mission‑driven Career Consultant to support individuals in achieving meaningful, competitive employment. This role focuses on identifying employment opportunities, providing job skill training, and collaborating with community partners to promote inclusive hiring. The Career Consultant is to identify, develop, and secure job placements that match each person’s skills and interests. This includes career advancement opportunities for individuals supported through Charles Lea Industries & Services and the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS). The Employment Specialist manages referrals, provides employment training, and supports individuals in achieving competitive employment. Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18
  • Minimum: Associate Degree in Human Services or related field OR High School Diploma with 3–5 years of relevant experience
  • Willingness and ability to obtain CESP certification within one year of employment in the CCN department.
  • Valid driver’s license and Social Security number
  • Ability to type 70+ WPM and navigate basic computer systems
  • Basic computer and documentation skills
  • Ability to pass required background and reference checks

Responsibilities

  • Implement person‑centered employment/vocational plans to help individuals reach career goals.
  • Conduct community networking to expand employment opportunities and caseload growth.
  • Complete informational interviews and advocate for individuals with prospective employers.
  • Attend and lead meetings on behalf of supported individuals.
  • Work with DSS, DDSN, and referral sources to obtain applicants.
  • Attend annual provider meetings and required trainings.
  • Document services in accordance with DSS and DDSN standards.
  • Partner with businesses and agencies to promote hiring individuals with disabilities.
  • Participate in pre‑employment job training sessions to understand support needs.
  • Communicate with interagency personnel, stakeholders, and natural supports to ensure clarity around progress, needs, and ongoing support.
  • Use assessments to set and monitor employment-related goals.
  • Continue developing knowledge and tools needed to support employment success.
  • Promote the use of technology for skill development and job maintenance.
  • Provide training to ensure all employment personnel follow best practices.
  • Coordinate documentation requirements for Employment Path services.
  • Provides one‑on‑one training and job development support to individuals.
