Job Summary: Performs a variety of simple carpentry tasks involving measuring cutting and construction of wood or wood substitute items such as window casings shelves doors etc. Duties and Responsibilities: Receives assignments from a designated supervisor orally or in the form of work orders. Selects tools decides on standard methods and techniques to use receiving advice and guidance in connection with unusual problems which may arise. Completed work is reviewed for conformance with requirements. May assist higher grade carpenter by performing fewer complex assignments. Makes minor repairs to buildings and structures such as replacing broken boards nailing down loose wall siding doors and windowsills. Completes repair work on office and shop furniture and equipment. Installs shelves in cabinets and work benches by fitting and nailing as required by work requests. Assists carpenter in the accomplishment of a variety of projects such as repairing constructing remodeling maintaining wooden structures fabricating and installing frames window casings doors transoms shelves etc. Uses a variety of hand and power shop tools in the accomplishment of assignments. Performs other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL EFFORT Makes repairs and installations from ladders scaffolding and platforms and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Is required to stand stoop bend kneel climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts carries and sets parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS The work is done inside and outside and is usually dirty dusty and greasy. Is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather. Occasionally makes repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present.
