This position reports to: Procurement Manager __ Your role and responsibilities: This role leads the sourcing strategy for steel and ferrous metal components, including carbon steel, stainless steel, electrical steel, cast iron, forged steel, and fabricated assemblies. The Category Manager drives total cost optimization through metallurgy knowledge, steel market intelligence, cost modeling, supplier development, and world‑class sourcing processes. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing and supplier management for ferrous metals including carbon steel, stainless steel, electrical steel, steel plate, sheet metal, bar stock, structural steel, fabricated steel assemblies, cast iron, and forged steel components. You will have the opportunity to develop, plan, and implement procurement strategy focused on optimizing costs, quality, delivery, and reliability of suppliers and supplied products. This position collaborates with Engineering and suppliers to optimize manufacturability for stamping, forming, forging, casting, machining, heat treatment, welding, and metal finishing processes. Monitors key steel indices (CRU, Platts, MEPS) and analyzes market trends in iron ore, scrap, and mill output to develop risk‑mitigation strategies. Develops should‑cost models covering steel grade selection, material utilization, machining cycle times, welding methods, tooling amortization, and finishing processes to support fact-based negotiations. Assesses supplier metallurgical capability, welding certifications, PPAP/FAI readiness, and compliance with ASTM/ASME standards. Develops sourcing strategies to mitigate supply risks related to mill capacity constraints, tariff changes, energy volatility, and long-lead casting/forging components. The work model for the role is: onsite #LI-onsite This role is contributing to the ELSP Electrification Plant in Senatobia, MS.

Requirements

  • Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field and Ability to demonstrate your experience in procurement and metals fabrication.
  • You have over 5 years in sourcing or category management, preferably in metals
  • Knowledge of carbon steel, stainless steel, electrical steel, structural steel, and cast/forged steel components
  • Experience in Machining, Milling, Turning, Stamping, Forming, supporting manufacturing environments (e.g., electromechanical, heavy industry, automotive, or industrial equipment)
  • You are immersed in highly skilled in with contract life-cycle management, negotiation of MSA, SLAs, price adjustments, Incoterms, Experience in Long Lead Time, Understanding of iron ore, scrap, and energy cost drivers, Should‑cost modeling for steel components, Cost breakdown analysis (material, labor, overhead, scrap factors)
  • Strong negotiation and influence skills, team collaboration, emotional intelligence, team building, Cross-functional leadership, High performing outcomes, and strong decision-making under supply chain volatility.
  • You are at ease communicating in English.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Leveraging the Continuous Improvement Process Sourcing process for implementing effective sourcing strategies in line with business strategy and ensuring that the supply base/suppliers have the capability and capacity to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Managing planning and tracking of procurement activities, cost budgets, emerging country spending, and savings forecasts.
  • Negotiating agreements with main suppliers, and periodically renews price lists, and terms and conditions.
  • Ensuring identification, investigation, and selection of appropriate suppliers (focusing on quality, delivery, cost, and sustainability) in accordance with company policies.
