About The Position

This position is in Ford’s Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering division, responsible for ensuring all Ford vehicles are compliant with regulatory requirements. The team requires that vehicles are operating correctly and are retrofitted with required equipment in order to be tested to emission regulatory requirements. Key activities include providing technical and mechanical assistance to engineering personnel in the analysis of complex pre-production development and certification vehicles.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years as a diagnostic technologist or mechanic.
  • Experience with emissions test vehicles or In-Use emissions certification.
  • Knowledgeable in emission control system operation on modern gasoline and diesel engines
  • Knowledgeable in exhaust and evaporative emission test procedures
  • Ability to reprogram vehicle electronic control modules (DET, PT Diag, other)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical assistance to engineering personnel during the analysis phase of pre-production development and certification vehicles.
  • Offer mechanical support and hands-on assistance for the preparation and modification of vehicles designated for regulatory compliance testing.
  • Ensure vehicles are operating correctly and are properly instrumented with required equipment to meet emission regulatory testing standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to diagnose and resolve vehicle operational issues that may impact regulatory compliance or testing.
  • Assist in the setup, execution, and monitoring of vehicle tests related to environmental and safety regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of vehicle modifications, test preparations, and technical assistance provided.
  • Contribute to a safe and efficient working environment, adhering to all Ford safety protocols and procedures.
  • Support the overall objectives of the Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering division in achieving and maintaining vehicle regulatory compliance.
  • Remove, disassemble, reassemble and replace vehicle mechanical systems using approved service procedures.
  • Diagnose electronic and mechanical system malfunctions on pre-production development and certification vehicles, providing technical assistance to engineering personnel.
  • Reprogram vehicle electronic control modules.
  • Fabricate tools and materials using welders, cutters and other tools.
  • Install and remove test equipment on In-Use vehicles.
