About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for leading the organization’s financial strategy, operations, and reporting functions. This role oversees the development and execution of accounting, billing, and financial management practices that ensure the integrity of fiscal records, accurate financial reporting, and sustainable revenue growth. The CFO serves as a strategic partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team, providing financial insights that inform organizational decision-making and long-term planning. This leader will build and maintain strong relationships with the Board, Finance Committee, clinical leadership, and external partners while actively engaging internal teams to support NHcare’s mission and strategic priorities. This position carries significant leadership responsibility, including oversight of financial operations, staff supervision, and management of organizational budgeting processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience in healthcare , with demonstrated expertise in financial planning, budgeting, and financial modeling.
  • Strong experience managing complex budgets and board-level financial reporting .
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with governmental and healthcare fiscal regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing county, state, federal, and foundation grants .
  • Proven ability to translate financial data into strategic insights that support organizational growth and operational performance.
  • Demonstrated success building collaborative relationships across leadership teams and external partners.
  • Advanced proficiency with financial and productivity tools, including Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, and accounting/financial systems .
  • Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Health Services Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in Community Health Centers or nonprofit healthcare organizations preferred .
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership Partner with the CEO and executive leadership to evaluate growth initiatives and strategic opportunities through financial modeling, analysis, and forecasting.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning, operational decision-making, and long-term financial sustainability.
  • Lead the development and coordination of annual budgets and long-range financial plans.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison with partner organizations, including the Council of Community Clinics, Palomar Pomerado Health, affiliated hospitals, providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Negotiate financial agreements and contracts, including hospitalist and managed care contracts.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to ensure financial strategies support high-quality patient care and operational effectiveness.
  • Design, implement, and oversee provider and staff incentive compensation programs.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors.
  • Present monthly financial reports to the Board and collaborate with the Board Treasurer on financial updates and insights.
  • Coordinate and support Finance and Audit Committee meetings.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Senior Financial Specialist, Accounting Manager, and Billing Director to ensure efficient and compliant financial operations.
  • Monitor all accounting and billing activities, including regulatory compliance, contract management, cash flow, receivables, annual audits, and budget management.
  • Provide financial oversight for hospitalist programs, including physician compensation structures and contract negotiations with healthcare partners.
  • Manage relationships with financial institutions and investment partners to safeguard organizational assets and oversee financing strategies.
  • Establish systems to monitor managed care contracts, eligibility verification, and health plan financial performance.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
  • Mentor and develop accounting and billing team members to support high-performing financial operations.
  • Support organizational quality improvement initiatives and contribute to ongoing operational excellence.
  • Demonstrate awareness of patient care standards and contribute to systems that support high-quality clinical services.
  • Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with patients, staff, leadership, and external partners.
  • Foster a culture of respect, responsiveness, and teamwork across the organization.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to workplace safety standards and report unsafe conditions.
  • Follow infection control and workplace safety protocols.
