Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Sutter Medical Center Sacramento (SMCS) will provide financial leadership and direction to the management and leadership teams, physicians, and SMCS staff with a key focus on driving affordability to meet long term goals. Achieving transformational change is critical to the organizations long term success. The position serves as the entity financial innovation leader with the goal of transforming the structure and operations of the organization. The finance functions are performed at the system level, the area level, and the entity level. System Level Finance functions include Reimbursement, treasury, quarterly reporting to bondholders, audit coordination, tax return preparation, managed care contracting, reporting to Sutter Health management and the Sutter Health board. Area Level Finance functions include Overall responsibility for all Finance and Accounting functions. Financial statement preparation, general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, statistical reporting, and budget preparation, reporting to the system, reporting to management, and reporting to the Board. SMCS Level Finance functions include Operational improvements, financial forecasts, feasibility studies and other financial analysis. Management of SMCS operational units as defined.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Business, Finance or Accounting required.
  • Seasoned experience as would normally be expected from a minimum of ten years combined health care, financial management, and operational improvement experience including multi-entity, managed care and an integrated health care delivery environment is required.
  • Experience in providing analytic support and maintaining cost-effective and long-term financial viability of health care operations.
  • Prior experience in demonstrating effective communication skills and interpersonal relation skills is required.
  • Prior experience developing and managing staff in the current competitive health care environment.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of a multi-entity integrated health care delivery system.
  • Extensive knowledge of the dynamics of health care financial relationships, to include physicians/facilities in a tax-exempt environment; managed care environment, including capitation; private inurement laws; anti-trust laws; Medicare fraud and abuse laws.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of GAAP and process costing in a health care environment.
  • In-depth working knowledge of health care departments emphasizing an understanding of finance, planning, physician relations, and a strong working knowledge of patient care and human resources.
  • Must have the skills, confidence, and ability to lead the effort to transform and restructure the organization to optimize operational and financial success.
  • This position serves a key leadership role in the operations and as such requires that the incumbent engenders a high level of trust, credibility, and confidence among superiors, peers, and staff from all areas of operation.
  • This position requires superior analytical, leadership, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • The incumbent must be innovative and creative in designing, developing, and monitoring financial systems and programs.
  • Requires strong microcomputer modeling skills, ability to query, download, and manipulate financial and statistical information from computer systems.
  • In addition, the position requires an incumbent who employs tact and discretion and is motivated, self-directed, confident and a self-starter.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Business, Hospital, Healthcare Administration or equivalent from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience with Lean or other process improvement philosophies and methodologies desired.
