About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides both operational and programmatic support to the organization. The CFO oversees the Accounting Department and serves as the organization's chief financial spokesperson, both internally and externally. The CFO reports directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and directly assists the Executive Management Team on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and the securing of new funding. The CFO brings expertise to problem resolution, provides feedback and opinion, makes thoughtful and informed decisions, and ensures solutions are executed in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements

  • Degree in accounting or other business-related field.
  • 8-10 years of financial/accounting management experience
  • Demonstrated experience with construction accounting practices especially with work-in-progress (WIP) type accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with and managing relationships with banks and managing loan covenants, financial ratios, financial reporting, and other performance aspects.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing customers, vendors, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial/accounting audit practices.
  • Experience in understanding and managing cash flows.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and provide direction based on the results.

  • Candidate does not need to possess a CPA. However, that would be desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business goals into financial plans, forecasts, and performance metrics.
  • Provide financial modeling, scenario analysis, and ROI evaluations for key initiatives, including acquisitions.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes.
  • Monitor performance against plan and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop dashboards and KPIs to track business performance.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Understand and oversee JDH’s work in progress (WIP)
  • Establish internal controls and financial governance.
  • Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization's mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans.
  • Provide regular, clear, and complete communication to the President/CEO on all organizational financial matters.
  • Provide Leadership to the Accounting Department, providing support to maintain departmental accountability and delegate tasks as appropriate.
  • Ensure tasks and responsibilities are adequately covered.
  • Supervise staff by conducting regular performance reviews and developing improvement plans.
  • Ensure consistent and effective department follow-through and delivery of results.
  • Involve stakeholders immediately when issues are identified and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
  • Train the Accounting Department and oversee/facilitate communication with internal customers (Project Managers, Construction Managers, etc.) to raise awareness and knowledge of financial management matters, including continuing to develop expertise with organization’s accounting software packages.
  • Provides guidance to staff with respect to Accounting Department priorities and involves the President/CEO as needed.
  • Provides clear directions to staff and ensures Accounting Department deadlines are met.
  • Assess the benefits of all prospective contracts and advise the Executive Team on programmatic design and implementation matters.
  • Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization, including organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports.
  • Represent the company in financial meetings and provide input, guidance, and direction as appropriate.
  • Oversee all purchasing and payroll activity for staff and participants.
  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard the financial assets of the organization.
  • Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors, ensuring all audit issues are resolved, all compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with federal, state, and other required supplementary schedules and information.
  • Monitor banking activities of the organization.
  • Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs.
  • Oversee the production of monthly reports, including financial statements and cash flow projections, for use by Executive management in an easily accessible format.
  • Create and assess financial statements and budget documents as required.
  • Recognize and be responsive to the needs of all clients of the organization, including customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to both internal and external customers.
  • Develop and deliver presentations as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of applicable tax laws and tax auditing.
  • Managing cash flows.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial/accounting audit practices.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and provide direction based on the results of the analysis.
