About The Position

The Child-Focused Recruiter is responsible for serving youth who are in the foster care system and at risk for long term foster care and aging out of care without supports. The overall goal of this position is to achieve legal permanency (guardianship or adoption) for youth. Permanency is achieved through communicating with family of origin, other known community connections, youth, and their professional team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Social Work or other equivalent degree in human services
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the human services field; preferably in adoption or foster care
  • Strong working knowledge of human service systems for youth, young adults, and families and an ability to bring together and collaborate with diverse community partners
  • Presentation skills to include talking with small and large groups about the importance of permanency and the functions of the program
  • The ability to problem-solve barriers while being sensitive to maintaining professional relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven effective organizational and time management skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Applications as well as electronic data systems, time sheets, expense reports, use of virtual platforms for meetings)
  • Ability to work independently from a home office and maintain adherence to deadlines.
  • Must be physically able to use standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Use of personal vehicle required to transport clients to resources deemed appropriate for services
  • Maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and have access to an operating vehicle to attend to CHS business

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to identifying a permanent, safe, and loving home for youth through actively exploring their family and past/current network
  • Conduct various methods of diligent search including interviews with DSS staff and children, case record reviews, and internet-based searches to identify resources
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the local child welfare system including foster care and adoptions
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with social workers, case managers, therapists, CHS Permanency staff, and other members of case management teams
  • Contact identified resources to gather information and engage them in planning for the youth’s future
  • Conduct program outreach to share information and solicit referrals
  • Display trauma responsive skills when working with clients
  • Utilize youth friendly language that is developmentally and age appropriate.
  • Establish rapport with referred youth and support them in honoring the past, present and future through activities designed to support youth through their journey towards permanence
  • Provide recommendations for contacts, relationships, recruitment efforts, etc. related to findings
  • Partner with DSS staff to obtain referrals and support/advocate for youth case plan goals
  • Adhere to program fidelity requirements in terms of documentation, case activities, data collection, and reporting
  • Conduct aftercare follow-up contact with the client/client family as specified by the program service model
  • Perform other duties related to department goals and projects as needed.
  • Coordinate with supervisor on the completion of any other assigned tasks
  • Network within CHS to share methods, techniques, etc.to support youth in their journey to permanency
  • Contribute to a positive, engaging work environment.
  • Display sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
  • Demonstrate the CHS Mission, Vision, and Values in the performance of all job duties.
  • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and trends.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training, and education, as well as the quality process.
  • Comply with CHS’s code of conduct, policies, procedures, and other obligations.
