About The Position

The Clinical & Health Informaticist - Pharmacist challenges the status quo of the healthcare experience through the Science of Informatics. This is an exciting field where experts innovate, design, simplify and translate technology to equitably support the Intermountain Health mission and vision. This position creates and maintains the clinical content for pharmacy information systems. This Caregiver specializes in the medication use process, from ordering to administration, and is responsible for effective process design, development, and implementation of the electronic medical record (EMR) and clinical decision support. This position will build and maintain the pharmacy information systems, support formulary management strategies and tactics, and participate in other system-wide initiatives aimed at improving medication use. The Informaticist- Pharmacist role functions as a liaison with business and clinical users and the software development/application teams. Caregivers in this role are also responsible for participating in the implementation, training, adoption, and process improvement of Health Information Technology (HIT). Please note that a video interview through Microsoft Teams will be required as well as potential onsite interviews and meetings. Requirements

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy (degree will be verified).
  • License to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances in a state that Intermountain Health conducts business.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency or three years of clinical pharmacy practice experience.
  • Understanding of fundamentals of relational database systems.
  • Training in human factors.
  • Previous experience with medication policy, medication safety, and formulary management.
  • Previous experience in an integrated healthcare delivery system.
  • Proven experience engaging providers, nurses, and other clinicians in learning through presentation and communication skills
  • Experience in a role requiring excellent communication (written and verbal), planning, prioritization, and execution skills with a strong service orientation.
  • Experience in a role requiring the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Experience in a role requiring skills related to balancing clinical, regulatory and financial goals and outcomes and collaborating with all levels within an organization.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy workflows in a healthcare system
  • Experience applying informatics fundamentals (People, Process, Technology) to impact quality and safety.
  • Experience participating and leading deliverables of Informatics projects
  • Experience working with Cerner, Epic, or other EHR vendors
  • Experience or training in the use of Continuous Improvement
  • Able to provide business hours, after-hours and weekend support regarding system development.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.

  • Epic Willow Inpatient certification or experience with the Epic EHR.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains clinical content (primarily content applicable to medications) for the inpatient and ambulatory electronic medical record, automated dispensing systems, and other pertinent systems (e.g., computerized provider order entry/barcode medication administration system) including clinical checks/rules, dose-checking templates, order sets, parenteral items, drug information, formulary restrictions to minimize medication misadventures, maintain formulary integrity, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Serves as a thought leader for maximizing technology design to achieve the best clinical outcomes.
  • Leads the organizational design, implementation and evaluation of medication specific decision support.
  • Serves as a content expert on literature related to the use of the electronic medical record and clinical decision support (primarily content applicable to medications) to meet organizational quality and patient safety goals.
  • Partners with clinicians to identify and facilitate advanced pharmacy systems design and decision support implementation within the electronic medical record to meet clinical goals.
  • Evaluates systems for refinements pertinent to improving medication safety, optimizing medication use, and enhancing system performance.
  • Serves as a system expert for identified problems related to pharmacy information management systems.
  • Interact with business and clinical caregivers to build productive relationships
  • Work flexible hours to meet project requirements
  • Provide customer experience and service utilizing verbal and written communication skills
  • Prioritize and organize work with attention to detail and limited supervision
  • Use word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail, virtual meeting applications, and scheduling applications
  • Demonstrated understanding of how clinical systems are utilized to provide patient care by a variety of caregivers and specialties
  • Use informatics fundamental skills to positively impact people, process, and tools
  • Use basic project management skills to contribute to technology project deliverables
  • Round in facilities across the system to observe workflows, meet with key stakeholders, assist with implementations, and other targeted functions.
