The Clinical Pharmacist – Opioid Stewardship supports inpatient pharmacy services across multiple Cleveland Clinic Florida hospitals, serving as both a clinical expert and regional liaison to advance safe, standardized opioid practices. Based at a primary site while supporting additional locations, this role collaborates closely with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, interdisciplinary care teams, and enterprise committees to drive quality and patient safety initiatives. Responsibilities include optimizing pain management strategies, reducing total morphine milligram equivalents (MME) both inpatient and at discharge, and promoting adoption of best practices across sites. This position blends direct clinical involvement with strategic program development, using data and stewardship dashboards to measure outcomes and support continuous improvement across the region. A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm with no holiday requirements and various weekend requirements from none to every 6th - 8th weekend. This role will be on-site at the primary hospital and provide remote support across the region. Travel requirements occur once per month to other Florida-based CC hospitals.

Requirements

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire.
  • Individuals required to administer immunizations: current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events: current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross - or certification obtained within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Board certification.
  • Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience.
  • Clinical Pharmacists hired in a specialized pharmacy practice area: post-graduate year 2 residency (PCY2) or relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in critical care or pain management
  • Prior experience in anticoagulation consult services, pain management or opioid stewardship (for opioid role)
  • Strong background in acute care/inpatient settings
  • Certifications (preferred but not required): Pain Management (e.g., ASHP certificate)

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered and evidence-based pharmacy and medication services.
  • Ensure the appropriate selection, dosing, administration and dispensing of medication orders.
  • Verify medication orders and/or dispense medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
  • Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
  • Actively contribute to medication safety initiatives.
  • Ensure all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.
  • Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.
  • Provide cost-effective care.
  • Be accountable for drug use policy adherence.
