About The Position

The Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of food and supplies for the Community Food Bank (CFB), a member of the Feeding America network. This includes local and in state pickups, deliveries, mobile distributions, events, and warehouse transfers. The role includes loading and unloading responsibilities while ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Feeding America standards, and food safety requirements. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 3 years of commercial motor vehicle driving experience.
  • Current and valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License, Class A or B.
  • Three (3) year clean driving record and current DOT Medical Certification includes physical, drug screen and background check.
  • Experience with pallet jacks, lift gates, and material handling equipment.
  • Proficiency in email and other technological communication and/or record keeping systems.
  • For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age; possess a current and valid Arizona Driver’s License and a safe driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in food banking, nonprofit distribution, or logistics.
  • Knowledge of USDA commodities and food safety practices.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service requirements, and proper logbook documentation.
  • Knowledge of proper load securing techniques (e.g., straps, load bars, pallets).
  • Knowledge of weight limits, load distribution, and transport safety laws.
  • Knowledge of temperature control for refrigerated/frozen loads and proper monitoring procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate Class A or B commercial vehicles as well as non commercial fleet vehicles.
  • Ability to represent the organization with professionalism at donor sites, agencies, and community events.
  • Ability to manage schedules and follow assigned routes efficiently.
  • Awareness of USDA and TEFAP/CSFP compliance rules for transporting food commodities.
  • Basic understanding of engine, brake, and trailer systems to identify issues.
  • Demonstrated independence and decision making while on the road.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required food safety certification and equipment certifications, including electric pallet jack and forklift certification, within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Transportation & Driving Operates Class A or B commercial vehicles and non commercial fleet vehicles safely to complete pickups, deliveries, mobile food distributions, and event support.
  • Complete scheduled routes efficiently while adhering to all DOT, state, and local regulations.
  • Perform pre trip and post trip inspections and report mechanical issues immediately.
  • Maintain accurate logs, documentation, temperature records, and mileage reports.
  • Drive in varying weather, road, and traffic conditions.
  • Loading, Unloading & Material Handling Load and unload pallets, cases, and bulk products using pallet jacks, lift gates, and other equipment.
  • Verify product quantities, conditions, and accuracy during pickups and deliveries.
  • Ensure loads are secured safely to prevent shifting or damage.
  • Support mobile distributions with setup, breakdown tasks, and food distribution.
  • Food Safety & Compliance Follow Feeding America food safety standards and donor guidelines.
  • Maintain proper temperature control for refrigerated or frozen loads.
  • Ensure compliance with US Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations when transporting The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) commodities.
  • Protect product integrity by following safe handling practices.
  • Customer & Community Relations Represent the food bank professionally at donor sites and partner agencies.
  • Communicate respectfully with donors, volunteers, clients, and partner staff.
  • Address issues related to pickups or deliveries calmly and effectively.
  • Vehicle Care & Maintenance Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and organized.
  • Report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Assist with scheduling repairs or service as needed.
  • Other Duties Assist with emergency response distributions or special events.
  • Assist with CFB events as needed.
  • Participate in safety and food safety training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
