About The Position

At the DEP's Watershed and Land Management Program (WLM), our mission is to unite land and water stewardship through a collaborative, watershed-focused approach. Since our inception on June 1, 2020, we have been dedicated to preserving and enhancing New Jersey's water quality and natural resources while safeguarding communities from environmental threats. The intern will engage in tasks such as digitizing existing public access locations in coastal municipalities, georeferencing and digitizing dredging projects, and/or mapping permitted nature-based solutions projects. Responsibilities may also include quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) of XY coordinate locations. Additionally, there may be opportunities for fieldwork, allowing interns to conduct site visits. Candidates should have some knowledge of ESRI products such as ArcPro and ArcGIS Online, with completion of GIS courses being a plus. Familiarity with data management software, such as Microsoft Excel, is also preferred. Candidates should be detail oriented and organized.

Requirements

  • Candidates should be detail oriented and organized.
  • Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates should have some knowledge of ESRI products such as ArcPro and ArcGIS Online, with completion of GIS courses being a plus.
  • Familiarity with data management software, such as Microsoft Excel, is also preferred.
  • Seeking individuals enrolled at an accredited university/college studying one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, or Physical Geography; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.
