About The Position

The Communications & Outreach Specialist plays a key role in amplifying the mission and visibility of the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (TCEDSV). This position develops, produces, and implements strategic communication initiatives and educational materials that strengthen statewide engagement, support member programs, and raise public awareness of domestic and sexual violence issues, with a primary focus on prevention initiatives. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with strong writing and design abilities, a deep understanding of trauma-informed and survivor-centered approaches, and the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public health, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, outreach, or related work.
  • Demonstrated experience developing written and digital communications materials for diverse audiences.
  • Experience implementing communications strategies across multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency with digital design and content tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and website platforms such as WordPress or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and survivor-centered communication practices required
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong visual communication and design abilities.
  • Ability to translate complex topics into clear, accessible, and engaging content.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Ability to travel periodically for trainings, conferences, and partner meetings (approximately 9–10 in-person visits annually).

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, coalitions, public health initiatives, or community-based organizations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and edit Coalition publications, including annual reports, newsletters, brochures, curricula, and educational toolkits.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media statements, and editorials related to Coalition initiatives, events, and priorities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop messaging and coordinate media engagement.
  • Maintain consistent and accurate messaging across platforms, including external profiles and partner communications.
  • Draft alerts, announcements, and calls to action to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • Coordinate with external partners and stakeholders to enhance visibility and outreach efforts.
  • Manage and grow the Coalition’s social media presence to engage audiences, promote resources, and highlight partner initiatives.
  • Regularly review and update website content to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with current initiatives, including prevention-focused platforms (e.g., PrevenTN).
  • Design visually engaging materials using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
  • Develop multimedia content including graphics, infographics, short videos, and digital campaigns.
  • Support development of eLearning content and digital training materials in collaboration with program teams.
  • Produce and edit written content for events, campaigns, and statewide initiatives.
  • Develop and disseminate communications and educational materials that support domestic and sexual violence prevention efforts across Tennessee.
  • Translate prevention research, evaluation findings, and public health concepts into clear, accessible messaging for a variety of audiences.
  • Create materials that reflect key prevention concepts, including community-level strategies, risk and protective factors, and initiatives that promote safety and wellbeing.
  • Support outreach efforts that engage diverse partners, including community organizations, workplaces, and statewide networks.
  • Assist in promoting prevention trainings, toolkits, campaigns, and learning opportunities.
  • Help highlight prevention successes, emerging issues, and promising practices across communities.
  • Support communications and outreach efforts that strengthen engagement with member programs, partners, and stakeholders across Tennessee.
  • Assist in the promotion and coordination of Coalition conferences, events, and awareness campaigns.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, member programs, and external stakeholders.
  • Support membership communications and engagement efforts, including outreach initiatives and resource dissemination.
  • Provide communications support across Coalition initiatives as needed to ensure consistent messaging and coordination across teams.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to amplify and align communications efforts across programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Management Team.
