About The Position

Manhattan Community Board 7 is an advisory body of the City of New York representing the Upper West Side. The 50-member volunteer board, supported by City-paid staff members, with a focus on preserving and developing affordable housing, creating employment opportunities, and improving education has an advisory role in the City’s land use review process, annual budget, and the delivery of municipal services. The board seeks to effectuate meaningful neighborhood-based change through research, analysis, and advocacy. CB7 is also an active participant in land use dispositions and local planning activities including large-scale development proposals. The district office supports the Board’s work and serves as the community’s first forum for local policy discussion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technology and have the ability to lead, stream, and manage CB7’s Hybrid Committee meetings, while remaining flexible to navigate technical and administrative challenges as they arise. In addition, a data driven approach to engagement through various social media is envisioned to cultivate outreach to new, diverse, and younger constituencies. Serve as design lead for the creation of flyers and other visual materials via Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Canva etc. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with community leaders, city agencies, and elected officials on issues affecting the Upper West Side. The Community Coordinator plays a key role in supporting public engagement, facilitating committee work, and helping shape community input on planning, land use, and neighborhood priorities.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Responsibilities

  • Lead data-driven engagement utilizing social media to cultivate relationships with new, diverse, and younger constituencies
  • Create visually engaging outreach materials using InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, CANVA, etc.
  • Serve as lead in repositioning CB7 Office to a digital and data-driven environment
  • Lead, stream and manage CB7’s Hybrid Committee meetings and provide tech/administrative support
  • Maintain ownership over CB7 website to improve user experience and increase function and aesthetic
  • Maintain a flexible hybrid schedule, including attendance at evening meetings to accommodate shifting agency priorities and maximization of public participation
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research on topics pertaining to Land Use, Zoning, or other Community Development projects
  • Work in collaboration with adjacent agencies (DOT, DOB, DSNY, etc.) to coordinate and improve city services
