About The Position

Community Engagement Project interns gain practical, hands-on experience in a nonprofit setting. This is a unique internship for those seeking experience with community engagement strategies, partner relations, and project management. The Community Engagement Project intern will be part of a larger team that provides support to other areas of the organization as needed. This internship position is unpaid, but interns will receive a $500 stipend to help cover costs related to the internship (food, housing, transportation), and college credit can be earned. This internship is to be completed in person, with limited virtual opportunities. The position will require the intern to attend events occurring on weekends and weeknights; however, those event attendance hours will count towards the total hours needed for the internship. Required event attendance will accommodate the intern’s schedule as much as possible, but flexibility in the intern’s schedule is preferred and necessary. This internship will run from May 12th 2026 through August 21st, 2026, and will have a mandatory orientation on May 7th, 2026 from 9:00 am-2:00 pm at the Family Futures’ office. This internship can also be extended into multiple internship periods ending in either December 2026 or May 2027. If interested in a longer internship period, please reach out to the hiring manager. Family Futures employees, volunteers, and interns serve as spokespersons of Family Futures in the communities we serve. This particular internship will entail the following: Use of a personal vehicle Lifting of boxes (roughly 25 lbs.) Requirements

  • Current student in Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Human Services, Communications, Early Childhood Development, Community Engagement, or related field
  • Willingness to learn new things and broaden personal comfort zone
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Interest in prevention-focused social work, community organizing, event planning, or advocacy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management and organizational skills
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • At least 15 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Gaining knowledge of the general principles of community engagement
  • Project management
  • Creating and modifying documents using Microsoft Office, Canva, etc.
  • Collecting, inputting and analyzing data in various online platforms, opportunities to work closely with data analysis and implementation of findings
  • Program and Community Engagement Team support
  • Event and Tabling attendance, coordinating Family Futures’ representation at local community events
  • Assisting with outreach planning as a key part of the Community Engagement team and assisting with procedures for events
  • Attending and supporting different community coalitions and workgroup efforts
  • Network with local businesses and organizations to help create successful events and completion of projects
  • Research and create developmentally appropriate activities for children and families
  • Research and create additional relationships to foster partnerships between organizations
  • Support on-going grant based deliverables
  • Assist with mailings, social media, and other communication efforts, as needed
