About The Position

Support the coordination of Pasadena Humane’s Community Resource program and Helping Paws services that proactively identify and support underserved and under-resourced individuals and communities. All community resources services, practices, policies, and procedures aim to assist people in crisis so they can get the help they need for their pets, keeping animals in homes and out of the shelter. This roles primary responsibility is the day to day coordination and organization of the pet food pantry, including inventory management, volunteer support, and client service. This position provides critical emergency services and may be required to work to ensure essential and emergency services are maintained in order to meet operational requirements.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma, GED or Proficiency Certificate
  • 2 years of experience working in community services environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, public speaking, and written skills.
  • Excellent communications and proven organizational ability.
  • Ability provide services to clients with diverse needs and from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in computer applications, databases, Microsoft and Google suites, and email.
  • Strong sense of professional judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Pallet Jack certification or the ability to complete Pallet Jack training within 90 days of the position start date

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in a leadership role supporting volunteers or leading small group activities preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish, Chinese or Armenian preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement Helping Paws services that support people facing homelessness, domestic violence, financial hardship, natural disaster or other crises
  • Coordinate services through pet food pantry and supply distribution; free spay/neuter, vaccines, microchips, and ID tags; subsidized veterinary care; free temporary, emergency boarding; and other fee-waived services
  • Follow and support implementation of established policies and procedures for community resources services and communicate updates to volunteers as directed.
  • Answer and address community resources related inquiries. Help answer and address alternative resource and intervention-related inquiries. Respond to concerns and complex issues to the manager. Ensure a positive, educational approach to customer service with a goal of educating the public and keeping animals in homes as appropriate.
  • Maintain and organize the pet food pantry. Track inventory levels and submit restock requests to manager. Coordinate with facilities to transfer supplies from the warehouse and communicate delivery timelines.Train and onboard new volunteers in pantry procedures, customer service expectations and policy guidelines.
  • Communicate with the volunteer team consistently to ensure adequate coverage and provide support during shifts.
  • Represent and coordinate community tabling and distribution opportunities as needed or assigned.
  • Support positive client interactions by de-escalating concerns when possible and exercising sound judgement to elevate issues to the manager when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided, community member interactions and program outcomes
  • Compile and prepare reports for review by manager to support internal planning, fundraising and outreach efforts.
  • Support program tracking and implementation in alignment with established Pasadena Humane or community resources goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the creation of relevant presentations, collateral, and training.
  • Work closely with Community Resources manager, ARC management and other internal teams to coordinate services and maintain high standard of care and customer service
  • Work closely with ARC management and the Community Resources Manager to ensure implementation of diversion and intervention program and appropriate delivery of Helping Paws services.
  • Work closely with volunteer services department as needed to train, schedule and engage volunteers.
  • Collaborate with other Pasadena Humane departments regarding Community Resources needs.
  • Work effectively with a team of colleagues from diverse professional, cultural and community backgrounds.
  • Uphold Pasadena Humane’s mission and contribute to building a culture of philanthropy.
  • Enforces and adheres to operational standards regarding safety and risk management. Ensure a safe working environment and actively participate in safety programs including the Safety First Team.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and actively participate in Pasadena Humane safety programs.
  • Participate as needed in special department projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
