About The Position

APTIM is seeking energetic and motivated intern to join our Construction Management team in New Jersey. APTIM's internship program provides Graduate and Undergraduate students with the opportunity to apply skills gained in an academic setting to challenging projects and meaningful work assignments. Interns will be paired with experienced mentors and should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, finishing their internship having gained a broad experience in various aspects of Construction Management focused on the transportation sector. This is a temporary position. The STRIVE Internship Program is a 12-week experience running from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Interns are required to be fully available during Week 1 (May 18-22) and Week 12 (August 3-7) of the program. Week 12 includes company-paid travel to an APTIM office (location to be announced) for an end-of-internship celebration. Interns are expected to minimize absences to ensure a meaningful program experience. The program observes Memorial Day (May 25, 2026) and Independence Day (July 3, 2026, observed). Field Work and Field Office Work: The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) trainee program allows for summer interns to work on ongoing Supervision of Construction Services contracts to learn about NJTA and transportation industry. In this role, the trainee will complete OSHA 10-Hour Construction course and completion of National Highway Institute (NHI) Plan Reading course (Course Number FHWA-NHI-134108 Plan Reading Series A-H). NICET I Certification and other future NICET certifications will be supported if continued work on NJTA projects is pursued. Summer intern trainee will participate in both field work and field office work. This may include, but is not limited to, field walks to review contractor work activities, participate in field job briefs and safety reviews. In the office, work will include processing and reviewing construction drawings, submittals, and related documentation. Requirements

  • Attending an accredited educational institution pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or similar with an interest in construction management in the transportation industry.
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA with at least 60 hours of coursework completed
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have experience with MS Office software
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills
  • May be subject to random drug and substance abuse screening
  • Must be a self-starter, excel in time management, and work well under pressure
  • Must be available to work in various settings such as at project field site or field office trailer.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Office Engineer with reports, calculations, estimations and inspections
  • Learn about Traffic Operations / MOT (MPT) for lane closures, detours and signage, coordinating constructability reviews
  • Coordination and stakeholder engagement with various project authorities having jurisdiction
  • Perform varied office engineering functions in preparing and supervising the preparation of reports, estimates, plans, and specifications
  • Assist with scheduling, conducting and documenting meetings
  • Use best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services
  • Conduct field activities for investigation or inspection with senior personnel
  • Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations
