The Consumer Underwriter at Royal Credit Union will evaluate consumer loan applications, make informed credit decisions, and support both direct and indirect lending channels—all while helping our Members achieve their financial goals. Please note, This opportunity is classified as Limited-Term and will have a term end date of December, 2025. The position is eligible for medical and dental insurance, all other benefits are excluded. What You’ll Do: The Consumer Underwriter represents the fiscal interests of Royal Credit Union and its Members, and is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and underwriting of consumer loan requests in accordance with Credit Union policies and guidelines. This role ensures timely turnaround on applications and performance of loans written for applications received through both Direct (branches, online, member service call center) and Indirect (dealership partners) channels. Our Commitment To You: Compensation: $28.55-$31.65 per hour (candidates with significant related experience may be higher)

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or the equivalent in experience in business or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience working at a financial institution that includes related experience
  • Credit Analysis & Decision-Making: Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills to evaluate loan applications, assess risk, and make sound credit decisions.
  • Communication & Service: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interviewing and listening abilities, with a strong sense of Member service.
  • Technology & Data Proficiency: Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Royal’s digital tools; experience with data analytics and business intelligence is a plus.
  • Organization & Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume, remote work environment.
  • Collaboration & Training: Skilled in coaching and supporting frontline lending professionals, fostering positive relationships with internal teams and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Call center experience
  • Experience in data analytics and/or business intelligence
  • FICEP Certified (CUNA Financial Counseling Certification Program) or other financial counseling certification
  • Awareness of laws and regulations governing consumer lending practices
