Primary Location: United States (US) - Iowa - Dubuque Function: Product Engineering (CA) Title: Control Systems Engineer - 118961 Onsite/Remote:Onsite Position Your Responsibilities As a Control Systems Engineer for the Construction & Forestry Division located in Dubuque, IA, you will develop next-generation control algorithms for earthmoving equipment operating in demanding real-world environments. Your work will improve machine performance, productivity, and operator experience, and you’ll also play a key role in delivering new automation capabilities that help customers move material more efficiently, with more repeatable results, and with reduced operator workload and fatigue. In this role, you’ll take control features from concept to production in collaboration with a cross-functional team, designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems that align with product program milestones. In addition, you will: Collaborate with product design teams to translate customer needs and develop quantifiable performance requirements Apply control theory to design effective control systems for physical systems (electro-hydraulic, powertrain, drivetrain, implement) Develop control system models in MATLAB and Simulink Conduct simulations and other virtual tests to evaluate performance Perform on-machine control systems tuning and analyze sensor data to optimize system performance and robustness Work with machine evaluators to improve system feel and performance, translating feedback into measurable improvements Create documentation for the control systems theory and on-machine tuning processes VISA Sponsorship is NOT available for this position

Requirements

  • Engineering experience from internship(s), co-op(s), or educational coursework
  • Fundamental understanding of physics and mathematics
  • Basic understanding in control theory, hydraulics, powertrain, and/or robotics/kinematics
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts to mixed audiences
  • General understanding of earthmoving products and applications
  • Comfort working across the development cycle from analysis and virtual modeling to hands-on testing/troubleshooting

Nice To Haves

  • Educational or professional experience designing or implementing control systems
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, or Simscape tools
  • Engineering experience in one or more adjacent areas such as embedded software, hydraulic systems, powertrain, and/or robotics/kinematics
  • Experience operating or testing earthmoving equipment or other off-highway equipment
  • Advanced degree in an engineering discipline
