About The Position

The Controller is a senior finance leader responsible for the overall financial health and integrity of a professional services organization. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on operational leadership across accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The Controller partners closely with executive leadership to support informed decision-making, drive profitability, and strengthen long-term financial sustainability. This position reports to the Chief Operating/Financial Officer and offers meaningful opportunity for growth and expanded leadership responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; MBA and CPA strongly preferred
  • 10–15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership or controller-level role
  • Prior experience within a law firm environment required, with strong knowledge of partnership structures, tax considerations, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, cash flow management, and financial reporting systems
  • Experience with legal accounting software; Elite 3E experience preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and complex formulas
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to stakeholders at all levels
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements, including trust accounting
  • Manage and enhance accounting processes, including billing, collections, and expense reimbursements, through documented standard operating procedures
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, evaluate performance, and recommend operational and financial improvements
  • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team while fostering strong internal controls and best practices
