About The Position

If you are an engineering student looking to gain meaningful, hands‑on experience in the power and energy industries while working alongside a collaborative and innovative team, Emerson has an opportunity for you. Based at our Latham, NY location, you will support real‑world project work that contributes to the design, configuration, and implementation of modern automation, electrical, and control‑software solutions. This Co‑Op experience provides exposure to power‑industry applications, control systems, electrical design, and software‑based control logic—helping you build a strong engineering foundation across multiple disciplines.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Enrollment in a formal Co‑Op program as part of your academic curriculum
  • Ability to return for multiple Co‑Op rotations
  • Interest in the power industry, industrial control systems, electrical design, or control‑software development
  • Ability to work in an office environment and occasionally at customer facilities, which may require walking on grating, using stairs/ladders, or working in varying temperatures and noise levels
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to travel up to 5%
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States (sponsorship is not available)

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience with electrical circuits, power systems, or industrial controls
  • Programming experience (e.g., C, Python, function block, or similar)
  • Exposure to control theory or automation platforms
  • Familiarity with CAD tools or engineering software
  • Prior internship, project, or lab experience in power, energy, automation, or software development

Responsibilities

  • Support project engineering and controls engineering activities across electrical, mechanical, chemical, and software‑oriented tasks
  • Assist with control‑system design, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Contribute to engineering documentation including wiring diagrams, control logic, device specifications, and system layouts
  • Participate in development, testing, and validation of control logic, function blocks, and system configurations
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams to solve technical challenges and share learnings
  • Gain exposure to power‑plant automation concepts, electrical system components, and real‑time control software
  • Support preparation of engineering packages, bills of material, and hardware/software testing activities
  • Learn industry standards, engineering workflows, and technical tools used in power‑generation and industrial automation projects
  • Bring fresh ideas and perspectives to engineering and project teams
  • Work with fellow Co‑Ops on multidisciplinary engineering assignments and team initiatives
